View Full Version : How Many People Using This Board

J'Pol
07-05-2004, 12:19 AM
I remember joining this board for that very reason, because it was a place where file sharers met and discussed it.

However I now have my doubts. How many people who use his forum are still file sharers.

EDIT

Just to make sure it's clear, this is not my poll or my questions. Someone has decided to do that with a thread I started. I had no input on the decision to make a Poll, or the questions posed within it.

Cheers

I still share, abeit not as much as I did last year I confess.

Main reason personally is because of the software I use (my main reason for d/ling :D) I've been using pirated less and using open-source and freeware more.

I'm still in Soulseek sharing music though :) Just that most people don't like to d/l my taste in music

Similarly, when my PC is switched then there is at least one client running. Soulseek most of the time nowadays as I find it totally reliable (or at least the people I deal with are). I have never had 1 fake, corrupt or virus contaminated file (that has been spotted).

My comp. isn't all set up yet (the old one had a meltdown 3-4 weeks ago and I finished building this one friday), but when it is, I'll start sharing again. I was nearly always using some p2p on the old one, 'cept when I was playing.

I think with more people able to access the net with broadband the number of people who share will go up rather than down despite the best efforts of the evil folk at the RIAA. sharing on dial up is painful wheras on bb it's hardly noticable.

emule is always on/uploading in the house and in work BT is usually sharing stuff while I download some Star Trek to watch at lunchtime.

I share nothing for 3 reasons:

1) Got a nasty little e-mail from my ISP telling me what I had downloaded and when and they told me to stop. I have too much to lose to be investigated.

2) The program was totally fucking with my broadband connection. I kept losing my input signal and the cable company and I got into a rather lengthy relationship of housecalls and phone conversations.

When they finally did a 48 hour audit of my cable, they found that my computer was being hammered by people wanting files. They asked me to stop sharing files and for 1 year, my computer has never lost signal. That opposed to 8-10 times a day, before.

3) Ever see that bluscreeen which ends

Beginning dump of physical data..................

That stopped showing up as well. Although no data was ever lost that I could tell, seeing the screen was a wee bit scary.

I confess I haven't shared in ages.

Around the same time I set up my wireless network, my DVD burner died.

I haven't even forwarded my ports.

I have been busy actually making money off of movies that I am not getting from the net.

My friend burns 'em and I help sell 'em.

I've been meaning to jump back on KL but I also have been looking for a new house in this crazy ass real estate market.

I would like to jump on Soulseek but it seems folks on here don't like the same type of music that I do.

You'll get any type of music you want on soulseek.

It has just about anything you would want. My number 2 son asked me to get D12 World yesterday. I found the full album in about 5 minutes and downloaded it in about half an hour.

I have been able to find just about anything I want. It's much easier if one of the people on my list already share it, but if not I can normally find what I want anyway.

Can I suggest you give it a try. I am more than happy to share over 90 GB of music (full albums) with you, as are loads of other people with very varied tastes.

Hmmm that might work.

Can you trade movies?

I will definitely have some "extremely" new ones you might want.
You movies, I get music.

I haven't used my main computer in awhile. The last time I did I was preparing to share something on KL that would've got me in serious trouble.

A friend of mine got a letter already and warned me.

Soulseek seems relatively closed. Especially if you just share with buddies

You can share anything you want, I get most of the movies I want from soulseek. From clever people who have got them from other systems and are now sharing them on soulseek.

And you don't have to just share with buddies. Some people just prefer that as a security measure, then they are just sharing with people they "know" from elsewhere.

Whenever I happen to be downloading, I'm always uploading. I couldn't really care less; my bandwidth's not being consumed, as I'm on ADSL, and it's for a "good" cause.

I've abandoned Clean KMD for all but MP3s - Shareaza remains my P2P application of choice!

And this probably explains the cause of many so called "corrupted files".

Kazaa doesn't give the files their final filename until the download is completed, and hides those it is downloading, so preventing others from downloading partially completed files.

Other systems use different methods.

By using the same folder for all your downloads you make partially completed files from one p2p network available to the other networks. The result is blank files, whistles, shrieks, bad movies, etc. The RIAA don't need to do anything, do they.

Keikan

never had a problem with people trying to download downloadxxxxxxxxxxxx.dat
overnet has a temp folder remember? it holds all the parts
ares always has this funny label like ___sadfasfsdf__ on downloading files i doubt people will download those

hey it works out all good for me

Partition the hard drive.

Use C: for your operating system etc.

Store media and data files elsewhere. Then if you need to format C: you can do it without worrying about your actual data.

Do not FDISK tho' as it will clear all of the partitions. If you need to FDISK then you will have to recover all of the data from your back-ups.
