How Do I Permanently Add Subtitles

can someone suggest how I could PERMANENTLY add subtitle to a dvdrip so that I can watch it on any mediaplayer.I don't really care if it means recompressing the movie I just want to knoe IS IT POSSIBLE?
and how?
could someone also please point me to some sites with subbies :lol:
any help would be greatly apreciated.
