the excorcist for me wasnt that scary... maybe cause I was watching it daytime after school. The Ring was meh could've been scarier if I was in the theatre alone :)

I couldn't stand The Ring. It wasn't as good as most made it out to be. I found it quite boring and predictable.

But uh... that's just my opinion. I find it hard to be spooked by movies. I haven't seen any but I hear japanese horror flicks are good. You might want to try some of them.

same here, horror movies don't really freak me out or scare me, maybe the occasional "oh i didn't c that coming", and yes, japanese are the best in the genre even tho i don't find horror movies that horrory :(

the original version of the ring scared the shite out of me. i think its cos the subtitles require you to concentrate on the film at all times :fear:

I think that was byfar the stupidist movie I've ever seen. If I wanted to see imbred hicks, I'll go to my grandparents house..

For scary movies. I suggest Halloween, TCM(78), Fri13, or phantasm.

Oh, yeah...Ichi the Killer.

Especially the scene where he stretches the girl out on the bar and whips her tits out and flattens them on the bar and slices the ends of the tips off with one long slice of the blade! Then he puts each piece, ariola and all, into a shot glass.....

That scene from the trailer makes me want to see this film as soon as possible!

Recent one (with surround sound- a must) is Darkness Falls (tooth fairy lady flying around my living room in total blackness while alone was scary), true surround sound, nothing better.

others worth mentioning

Both of the original Body Snatchers, 50's and 70's version's were scary.
Both Final Destinations are worth watching
Gothika had a few moments
The Hitcher (original Rutger Hauer version)
The Lost Boys had it's moments and was an all around classic thriller.
Ditto for Fright Night
Manhunter (very first Hannibal Lecter movie)
Mimic has it's high points the 2 sequels did not even compare
Phantoms had it's moments
THEM had me spooked for my entire childhood, still watch it occasionally for a recalling thrill.
The Thing (john Carpenter's)
What Lies Beneath had it's moments
Wrong Turn also gets a nod, had some very creepy, spooky moments.

I thought the first "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was pretty freaky. The music scared me the most, though. The theme song is really creepy....hehehehehe, IMO.

Salem's Lot (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079844/) and The Omen (http://www.imdb.com/find?tt=on;nm=on;mx=20;q=omen) did the same to me :P

The original 'The Ring' movie was japanese, so how can you say that it wasn't that good then go on to say that the japanses are the best?
For horror try August Underground Mordum, brutally scary, you wont last 30 mins, get it on emule.

all of you idiots are forgeting The Shining!!! im a pretty big horror film fan and i can tell a good quality horror when i see one, The Shining is CLASSIC, and scary as hell.
oh, and what some people dont get why there friends tell them a movie is scary as hell and then you watch it and your like "ummmmmm, that was kinda dumb", its cause its PHSYCHOLOGICAL! everyone is different. the majority of the best scary movies came from the 70s.

Texas Chainsaw Massecre (the old one was the best absolutley scared the shit out of me! the new one is really good too... ii would have to say it was more intense then scary...GET OUT OF THERE!!!)
Halloween (the first one was prob the only good one, H2O was pretty good though)
The Shining (2 names:Stanley Kubrick & Jack Nicholson!)
The Ring (one of the most well made horror movies in recent memory!)
The Omen (classic, a creep fest)
A Nightmare on Elm's Street (yet again, the first one is the only good one)
Night of the Living Dead (one of the most revolutionary films in horror history)
What Lies Beneath (great movie)
The Others (another great movie)
OOPS i almost forgot! The Exorcist! (if it doesnt scare you it will atleast freak you out)
Rosemary's Baby (very creepy, prob the most influencial horror flicks of all time)

there is more but im getting tired of trying to think of all of them
a good horror movie is hard to find sometimes, but it can be worth it

You should check out Don Coscarelli's phantasm . The first is my all-time favorite horror. I seen it about 10 times as a kid, never scarred me. Its a great horror flick check it out. Also you might wanna check out friday the 13th parts 1,2,3,4, 6 and 7.

5 and 8 TOTALLY SUCK! I also never liked the hell one. Jason X was crap

Have to say that the remake scene is hotting up and producing some dire attempts at cinema. I mean everyones entitled to their opinion, however i believe that you can't improve on an excellent film so why bother? Why remake tcm or the ring? The originals are amazing movies. Why not remake some piece of crap horror like thirteen ghosts? So many 'horrors' are being pumped out by the big companies and getting a low classification just so they can fill up the cinema and generate more revenue for the company. Sorry i just hate this money grubbing film industry. Film makers rule, the companies that fund them and the rogue directors who can't seem to stop selling out just agravate me so much.
ok rant over, peace.
