Well I have been testing and using LoTs of programs that relate to

1) Cleaning out useless files
2) Registry Cleaner
3) Spy/Ad ware remover
4) Pop-Up Blocker

Just about everything, here is a list of programs that I use:

1) Tweak XP Pro 3.4
2) Spybot
3) Ad-Aware
4) TuneUp Utilities 2004
5) RegMechanic
6) Advanced Uninstaller PRO 2004

But I was wondering if there is another program out there that can like Substitute any of those above programs and is better... I know everything is based upon Point Of View and a Users Preference, but I would like to hear your Opinions... I am quite satisfied with these program, but wondering if there happens to be a better supplament for any... MOre or less if there is another program I might want to give a try to either Optimize/ Clean my computer...

IF you need more information please let me know and I will do my best to answer them... Thanks for helping in advance.

For removing junk/useless files i use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and DustBuster (Great!) (http://www.casperize.com/dustbuster/dust_en.htm).

For Spyware/Adware detection/removal i use AdAware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) and SpySweeper (http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php).

For my registry cleaners I use RegSeeker (http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/12/5/12-5-22.shtml) and RegCleaner (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html).

I have lots of other programs, but these are my essentials, and have found them to be the best at what they do.

~Digital Nirvana

-{edit}-ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE FREEWARE, EXCEPT SPYSWEEPER

After viewing LoTs of different opinions... Now the only programs I use are:

1) SpySweeper
2) Ad-Aware 6.0
3) TuneUp Utilities 2004
4) Advanced Uninstaller Pro 2004
5) PowerPack 2005

Thanks for everyone who chipped in their ideas... and I am still open to them if you have a word or two to say. Thanks again, and I am willing ot test out your Opinion as it is all about tryign different products to find the one you like.

thanks for the feedback, I think I'm going to try Advanced Uninstaller Pro, I've heard some good things about it.

Also you might want to think about trying Crap Cleaner and Dustbuster to clean out all the rubbish in your system as Digital Nirvana said. I like both of those programs.

btw I'd recommend Ad muncher too

What about Dustbuster (http://www.casperize.com/dustbuster/dust_en.htm)? :P
The first time I used it it cleaned 35+mb of junk files, and that was after running CCleaner and WindowWasher.

Hate that program. It doesn't tell you what it's doing, what is cleans, the setup is in italian. I used it once, uninstalled it after and haven't looked back since. ;)

Was going to add it to the guide since it is so popular, but i wouldn't recomend it so i didn't put it.

Since people asked. Here it is DB link, description & my experience.

http://www.computertotaal.nl/downloads/download.cfm?id=155

DustBuster (freeware) is a garbage file removing utility for M*crosoft Windows operating systems. It searches for junk files and temp files that are of no use and are just taking space on your hard drive. Based on a fuzzy logic scanning technology, DustBuster cleans over 700 different types of useless temporary files and directories in a single click, detecting and deleting all these unneeded garbage files automatically. This will increase hard disk space on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. The integrated SensibleScan search engine does not interfere with system files or installed applications: it gives you the freedom to clean up disk space simply and securely in no time, enhancing your system's performance, so you can focus on what's important to you.

DustBuster analyzes in full automatic mode the content of your hard drive and finds and deletes a wide range of files while safeguarding the integrity of the operating system and the installed applications.

No configuration is required as DustBuster is developed for reducing the interaction with the user. Enjoy the power of cleaning on Windows 98 Second Edition, Millennium Edition, 2000 Professional and Server, XP Home and Professional. Please make sure you are not using any program listed in the compatibility blacklist. DustBuster version 2.6.2 conforms to the operational standards established by M*crosoft for the operation on Windows XP: a further strong guarantee, although the complete compatibility with the new operating system is already guaranteed with the former version.

zapjb says:
A LOT of people don't like it, cause there's no choices, and part of its in Italian. Just the install (At least on my copy, I have the .exe non install version). DB is idiot proof & I like it. But like I said a lot of people don't trust it & they slam it. If you're a control freak you WON'T like DB, because it's automatic. The first time it runs it might take 10 minutes, then at most it might take 30 seconds. I trust DB completely & have had NO probs in over 2 yrs using it.
DB does it's dirty work then disappears. Unless you're watching you don't know how many kb - MB it freed.
Another way to tell is My Computer - rt click Local Disk - Properties. Read the used space first (maybe write or record it somewhere). Then start DB. Then go back & read the difference.
Ime DB is just the best of the junk file removers.
On numerous fresh installs of XP DB ime removes 150-450MB.
I think window washer is worthless in comparison. Just tried CrapCleaner didn't do anything. On & on I could go bout these other progs (dozens) that are ineffective to pos.
There ya go DustBuster XP the King of junk file removers.
Once again if you're a control freak DON't use it.

LilAznAccommodator
07-14-2004, 04:34 AM
Wow that is a Good Overview of DB, and I will give it a Try.. I must agree, Window Washer isn't aht effective on my Comp.. and I will try DB soon... Along with Diskeeper... I dont' think that did much for me either... =( But yet, I am only trying products so yeah.

I don't think anyone knows what it deletes, we talked about it here before. It just does it's job without any obvious adverse effects and leaves your HD a lot lighter. The fact that it is so mysterious means some people don't like it but it's definitely the app that gets rid of the most crap.

btw I'm upset that my record has been broken. I'll try to find a PC that will help me topple the 1.3 gig mark and take a screen shot :01:

After a clean, use the registery cleaner to know when files became non-existent.
According to my "experiments", it cleans 3 DLLs from windows, cleans Prefetch, cleans specific files from IE cache that are not needed and I dunno

Im a little late, but I use Ashampoo power up XP platinum and Ashampoo Win-optimizer platinum. I just like ashampoos stuff. Win optimizer works great for cleaning out all kinds of shit. I dont have a link for the program cuz you have to buy it for it to clean anything out.

oh, and the best thing I have seen ashampoo do was delete 16,412 internet porn cookies/links from a friend of a friends puter (that asshole needs to go OUTSIDE of the house once in a while)
