yes, vBulletin.
Its IMO the best forum software out there, and anyone who has enough respect for their members to pay for a forum software should choose vBulletin. ;)

For a free forum, Invision. But for a paid licence, definitely vBulletin

And the chances of this happens increases as you're forum becomes more popular. So just as your forum hits the big time you'll have to switch forum software (using the various importers) which is no mean feat :(

Im sure thats why vBulletin.org has the biggest community of members for any forum software I have ever seen, and new mods are made daily/weekly.
And Im sure that one day everyone would just wake up and say "this = shiz, bye f00s" and go away.
Totally right, Jelsoft will stop making vBulletin and go bankrupt.

Switching forum software is easy.

On my forum I first had phpBB then cnverted to IPB then back to phpBB. It was easy stuff.

I remember when Infopop's UBB (Ultimate Bulltien Board) was on the top off all the message boards. Then came Ikonboard. That software was popular, until the main developer quit and decided to create IPB.

Yes, UBB use to be very popular.

Ikonboard was a real resource hog :x not to mention it was coded in Perl (but at that time, I suppose that was the way to go)

Not only did the developer quit, there was also an Admin that quit too and formed IBforums which soon became Invision Power Board.

Um no it cant be said about every other forum software, f00.
Theres NO other forum software with the amount of users/hacks/mods/skins/helpers than vBulletin, and the fuck if your gonna tell me something else :P

And wether or not Jelsoft "own" the market, depends on how you define "own".
I define it, in this situation, as "creating the best quality product, and having the hugest member database".
In which case, vB owns the market.

1. Quality over quantity :P

2. So, per your definition, the product with the larger memberbase wins? What about Windows and Linux? Would you say Microsoft has a better product? :01:

The bold writings here would indicate that since theres tons of more features for your board, and friendly people who will help you with your problem, you will get a quality product.
No other forum software is as easy to customise as vB.

1. Invision Power Board can be just as modified as vBulletin if not more.

2. What makes the "best quality product", besides your biased opinion. :P

Hello!

This forum is runned with Invision Power Board!

Is'nt it enough for you?

What kan VBulletin do that this forum cant?

The only advantages that I have seen on VBulletin boards is that you can track all the users on the forum and see what everybody is doing and which threads they read/replying to etc that is kind of fun!. Another advantage is that the Show New Posts function works slightly better on V boards. But is that enough?

Best option if you do not want to pay and dont want to risk getting any threats then Invision is the way to go!.

It is good enough and it is customisble so what more do you need??.

Here is the free trial version:

1. I went to check out that link, and Id hate having to navigate thru [insert number of pages here] just to find a mod I wanted. I didnt see any search function (then again I didnt look hard)

2. The "best quality product" must be the one that is so good that people are willing to pay for it?
After all the original question here was what PURCHASED forum software is the best.

@ Joachim: This forum is "runned with" iPB because vB isnt free.
Digital Update is powered by vBulletin. Isnt it enough for you? :P
And vB has got more features incorporated AND potensial via addons than iPB.

Plus theres that annoying little fact that NO support is given for iPB unless you PAY for it. At least with vB you GET the support

I also find vB's code easier to understand than iPB's. And yes, I have looked at both.
(Then again going from the vB rip wBB till vB may have biased my opinion  )

Alt kan gjøres med vBulletin!
Everything can be done with vBulletin!
:D

PS: vBulletin is also the ONLY forum software which does not have the "smilie insert appears at the bottom regardless, when using Firefox" bug, AFAIK :)

IPB Trail = No Support, except Third Parties. Guess what? It's free.
Purchased IPB = Support which includes, support tickets, private support via the forum.

Yeah people buy iPB. Crazy fucks are everywere arent they
And the same support shit with vB, so whats the difference, apart from that IMO you get your moneys worth with vB? :P

And at any rate, iPB's RPG system is balls! XD
