how do u find out the ip ranges for a banner ad on a page? So u can add it to HOSTS and stop it showing up?

Find out the root url of the banner (right click will do) and find it's IP

Do this either in DOS or use this page (http://www2.hunter.com/~skh/scripts/dnslookup.html)

its not a pop up. Its a website i use daily (similar to msn.com) which has different banners which simply annoy the hell out of me

does it block things like this too? any probs with wanted pop ups?

Google Toolbar only blocks pop-up advertising. Your probably not looking for pop-up blockers because your original post was about blocking adverts placed on the website.

If your using FireFox, there is a great extension called Adblock that allows you to block graphical and flash advertisements.

yeah not looking for pop up blocker as the one in firefox (Yup using it) does well enough. Thanks for the other suggestion will try it out

Hmm havent really noticed if it blocks banners (sorry, thought you said pop-ups the 1st time). I dont think it does though. But as for wanted ads, it show alittle thin banner below the address bar about the same size that allows you to click on it and tell it to allow or temporarly allow from that site.

Or down in the bottom right of IE where it says Internet (zone), there is a small place to click to manually add or remove sites you want to allow or block.

Its alot better then going Tool > Internet Options > Privacy > Sites.
