(its a hype to have wtf on teh title nowadays)

So, I got me these WinAll XiSOs (double dvd's)
Im curious about What does these terms mean, exactly:

OEM ? (wherefrom these letters comesforth?) ;)

VLM ? (is this teh Corp. version?)

Retail ? (Your Diet Coke of XP?)

I mean, I got options in the AutoStart Menu of the XPPro to install or Pro or Home versions
plus the second cd for Tablet PC and Media Center edition.
None of them says which one is Corp. edition XP Pro,
All i see is: Retail, OEM or VLM.

I'd like to know which of these are Corp editions, how do you tell the difference etc.
And, what is the difference between these?

I know I should install the Corp if needed as it dont have the registering hassle,
im just curious about these terms and how to find teh right one.

Here's teh nfo that comes along with the images: (I recommend to get these discs, he he...)

OEM are versions that are supplied together with a new computer. Usually these can only be used for clean installs, not for upgrades.

Retail is what you buy in a store.

VLM I don't know. I only know of VLK, which is kind of a corporate serial key for windows.
VLM = Very Large Masses ????

thats an impressive list.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacture (ie. comes with new computer. No support from Microsoft. CD can only be used to restore, not upgrade)

VLM = Virtual Loadable Module

Retail = Bought in store, massive box with a tiny cd

There is 2 DVD's, both as ISO files but DLed from torrents many moons a go.
Its not so long a go when I saw these on suprnova, if you want these, make a search with a word "XiSO" or "WinAll" and it should pop up if it is seeded.
Be sure to have enough space on HD
;)

I dont have the RAR files anymore so I cannot share these, they are burned and deleted.

This is what Im lookin at when I boot teh first dvd and click on the Windows XP:

Image Resized

<a href='http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v295/geppaholic/WinAll.jpg' (http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v295/geppaholic/WinAll.jpg) target='image'>Image Resized

So, the VLM is the Corporated edition?
I think it is, since it says in the *.nfo file, its on bold-text.
As you see, there is no mention in the image about Corp....

Windows XP Home Corp with Service Pack 1
Windows XP Home OEM with Service Pack 1
Windows XP Home Retail with Service Pack 1
Windows XP Media Center with Service Pack 1
Windows XP Pro Corp with Service Pack 1
Windows XP Pro OEM with Service Pack 1
Windows XP Pro Retail with Service Pack 1
Windows XP Tablet with Service Pack 1

My plan is to make an ISO, burn it and then install a Corp version (possibly)
later today, just need some opinions about this first,
just to be safe.

Anyways, is there some ways to see what version is currently installed?
I know what i got installed atm, but i'd like know how that info can be found,
generally.

btw, the worst "cd's" has go to be the Restore-cd's one gets when bying a PC sometimes.
The OEM version.
There's usually a hidden partition where the image of the first installation is.
The restore cd just boots up teh DOS or something and restores the image,
if you have installed new hardware, may God have mercy on teh installation...

Even some boxes, ready-built, from Dell or other companys has the Restore CD's,
no original OS cd at all, and its extremely irritating.

Ppl pays for XP and gets a Restore cd instead, the XP is on hidden partition.
Is that even legal? to sell it like that.

folder I386 in c:/ is the windows folder (usually about 400plus MB). This is what u will get if u use an oem install copy. Its not illegal just bad. People arent buying windows xp/whatever from microsoft, they are buying a pc from another company who has bought windows from microsoft and installed it. All complaints etc go to the pc company not MS.

Not really sure what VLM is so stay away from it! :P

People have personal choices, Peat Moss likes xp pro corp sp 1...other people like home sp 1. I think u need to choose which one u prefere. But def use the retail version

DLed long time ago, with SP1 innit also.
I just wanna make an ISO from this dvd and see how it works,
if it works at all.

And, I just wanted some clarification what does these terms mean.
It would be nice to know from what words these terms comes from etc.

So, any more info added here is niiiize.

Yeah, I saw the post. :)

But im still looking teh Exact kinda infos, something from teh Horses Mouth etc.

Hehehehee...

atleast I found whats teh lingo on VLK (http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/vol/volkeys_osl.mspx), its about Volume Licensing Product Key (VLK).

I dont know if there is several meanings for this.

And, I was googling about teh VLM (http://computing-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Virtual%20Loadable%20Module) and most places says:

...Virtual Loadable Module - (VLM) Novell's term for software modules that can be dynamically loaded to extend the functionality of the "VLM" NetWare Requester for MS-DOS that became standard beginning with Novell NetWare 4....

So, it would make sense that the Virtual Loadable Modul would be used in Corporate situation, no?
I mean, installing the same XP over a network in multiple PC.

Sort of.
