Im planning on gettin a Gigabyte Radeon X800 Pro Graphics accelerator card 256Mb DDR3 for NZ$853.88 including gst

I know it may sound extremely expensive (which it is) but take note that its in New Zealand dollars.

Should i take this now (or within this next month) or wait until the end of the year... Im sure the price wont drop by much...and even if it does its only going to be about $100 which doesnt bother me.

I dont know any cheap companies that ship to NZ :P

Any recommendations? Will this card be a massive improvement from my current 1

I suspect something new is probably being conjured up in the labs of ATI and Nvidia already.. so I guess you could buy it if you want to show off =P (I'd rather buy it at the end of the year or so =P)

id wait for the next generation of cards....... they'll be much faster.........

and then wait till those drop in price a lil........ but wait, then its better to wait a lil more so the even faster ones will drop in price, so id wait a lil more, but then.......... :o

DILEMMA

i'd wait. look at the 9800 pro. when it 1st came out, it was revolutionary, also very pricy. now, u can get one for less than $200

Storm

well, question yourself: "Do i really need this new card for the games i want to play?"

if not, why the **** would you buy it????

if so, arent there also other parts in your system that would hold you down?

Wait till more new cards come out.

the 9800pro is more than enough for the current and most future games anyway.

if u really want to future proof yourself why would you buy an x800.

LMFAO

This is great...

i knew id get a lot of "wait till the next gen cards come out" replies...

so when the next gen cards come out ill probably want those.... then youl tell me to wait until the next gen....

ahhhh

OK let me start this over again. I dont care about price.

Should i get this card or the GF6800GT ....theyre the same price here...

which will be better for HL2 and Doom III

Depends.

any news on if doom III is gonna be pixel shader 3.0???

6800 is the only card that supports it ATM...

anyway, you will probably want the next unreal tournament when it comes out and it can currently only run on the 6800. :)

Nvidia totally owns ATI in Doom 3 benchmarks.

6800GT is killin'' the x800XT in Doom3 frame rates. :)

get the 6800 for sure.

Actually, it kills the x800XT-PE, but anyone who looked at the driver potential of the 6800s would have expected that.
