Can anyone recommend a good point of sale (POS) machine for my brother's restaurant in the UK.

He was going to get a company to do it, but i told him i could save him money if i installed the system for free of charge. They were going to charge £10,000 ($18,000).

Been looing for a decent system, but want one with a good management software for admin purposes.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

I found this software (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=580868&Sku=K155-3048&CatId=1032) at Tigerdirect.com (http://www.tigerdirect.com) that may be for you. I'm sure there may be something similarly available for use in the UK. (ya know, different currency and all)

You will have to provide a Windows machine and a touch screen monitor.

good luck with it...

Aren't they just a computer plus the scanner thing, receipt printer, cash drawer, and optional credit card swapping doo-hickey???

couldn't see that costing more than £3000.

edit: NVM after reading harry carry's post i realize what you mean. But i think that would be even cheaper.

Might as well buy this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-451&depa=0) for five dollars more. ;)

If it's for a restaurant, you might consider really bad cooling.

So you can cook stuff in the case, like.

You could do worse than have a look at what Epson have to offer, the hardware (slip printers etc) has always proved reliable and isn't too expensive.

Don't know what their software is like, we wrote our own but it wasn't for the POS market so that would be no use to you.

POS machines are expensive :(

To ROSSCO - The whole system has all those features, but what my brother wants is just the main system with the credit card facility.

The main system consists of the touch screen monitor and the server in the back office. My brother wants a system that has all the admin features so he can edit items if there are refunds or discounts, special offers etc.

To HARRYCARY - Software on a PC is a good alternative, I might recommend that to him to see if he wants it. It's certainly cheaper.

To LYNX - The EPSON's are a good recommendation, I've seen a few of their systems on the net and will look into them more closely. How do you program them - is it menu driven or do you have to use scripts?
