View Full Version : Winamp Won't Load

recently winamp has been taking like 5 mins to load.
can't do anything with it until it loads.

Image Resized

it sits there showing just the top part of the player nothing else (no playlist or media library etc.) and clicking on what it shows has absolutely no effect. :(

then finally after about 5 minutes of sitting here waiting it opens up as if nothing different happened.

I've tried: Reinstall
Uninstall then install it again
Uninstall, delete whole winamp folder (along with any plugins), and delete all registry entries, then install again
None of these helped me at all, anyone have any ideas? :( Im using Winamp 5.03z btw i've checked at winamp.com and this is the lastest version (well, it was last night...)

[i]edit: added a pic which btw im sorry it's so big just too lazy to cut off the right side...

do you have alot of plugins installed?
i keep all my seldom used plugins in a seperate folder so winamp doesn't load a bunch of .dll's when run.

PS i still use winamp 2.95

lol i hate the old versions.

used to hate winamp so much but 5 came out and i started to like it more and more as i used it. now i love it.

i don't have any plugins anymore. got rid of them all and it didn't help (said this in my first post).

besides i only had one plugin anyway, it was the sound enhancer one...called enhancer

btw, i've been having problems with my prefetch, (keeps deleting itself for some reason, im gonna bring the thread back up) think maybe this might be causing the problem?

@4play, what is different in the lite version? might try it later or tommorrow right now i gotta figure out the prefetch problem...

@4play -- You have the lite version?

You might as well not have winamp at all.

oh lol i thought the lite one would be some tweaked one by someone else.

nahh i doubt it will work, besides even if it does it doesn't have the skins i like...which is one reason why i hate the older versions.

the full one worked for me a week ago why not now? :(

Main thing is that the sound quality is shit.
then there is the bad theme, lack of a media library (hate playlists, never used them, never will), and more which i can't remember.

but the main thing is that the sound quality is horrible.

I understand, rossco, that you strive for a real solution to your winamp quandary...
however!
;)
I feel obligated to punctuate the conversation with a more holisitc solution.

http://quinnware.com/img/dn/download.gif (http://www.quinnware.com/)

if you truly feel the sound quality is not up-to-par with Winamp's (though, like DN here, I used them concurrently for some time before ditching winamp altogether and noticed no difference in sound quality...and I'm a picky bastard), QCD accepts DSP plug-ins designed for winamp. And the skins are much more lightweight. Not to mention that you can browse for and download new skins from within QCD itself.
And they're much more customizable with the remote and layout options.

As for the media library vs. playlists, that's a personal preferece, but if you set a directory in QCD as your playlist directory, you can have all your albums at your disposal in two clicks. (such as my "E:\Playlists" folder, with hundreds of playlists in).

And by not trying to be a "every-goddamn-thing-you-can-think-of" application, it uses less system resources...just being a nice little audio player.

Winamp stopped being any good after version 2.
But suit yourself.
Don't see this as a problem, but rather, as an opportunity to ditch that POS.

I've tried QCD before, I never noticed any substantial difference except that as someone has already stated winamp is and always will be bloated every since v2

@ROSSCO_2004 -- maybe you need a new sound card.
