As most of you think NAV (Norton AntiVirus) is shit, well I used to be a diehard NAV user...untill a couple of days ago. Couple days ago my computer got hit hard with a virus, Norton couldn't delete it, and all of a sudden it attacked my NAV and NAV said it had encountered a critical error and needed to be uninstalled. Well about that time I just said f*** Symantec and uninstalled NAV, then I downloaded Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0. And I love it. Now, even with my most up-to-date virus definitions NAV usually didn't find hardly problems, and with KAV it found 3 more viruses that NAV has never found! And even better, KAV doesn't use near as much system resources as my NAV did. I suggest all you Norton users to convert to something better.

Kaspersky > Norton

Just thought I'd share my story with ya guys. ;)

I'll even admit, it was pretty hard cracking Kaspersky 5.0. Just download the full trial here (ftp://downloads-us1.kaspersky-labs.com/trial/registered/2T17J48017F63KM1T941/kav5.0trial_personalen.exe) and eMule search Kaspersky 5.0.142 key, and there should be a few key.reg files on there, it might take ya a few tries, but that's where I got my key file at.

Haven't tried kaspersky in ages.
But that other one is nice too...umm....what's it?

oh! NOD32!

Considered NOD32, but went with KAV5 instead. If I get bored with KAV I'll try NOD32 and possibly AVG 7 Pro.

Right now KAV personal is at v5.xxx. And KAV pro is at v4.5xx. KAV v5 personal is a lot easier on sys resources than pro 4.5xx. If you haven't tried v5 you'll be suprised how much better tis.

Andy = Andr Net? I don't trust that place any more, KAV5 keeps finding viruses from downloads there, usually in zip files that have a file named, "startup.exe" It's usually some kind of download worm. And get this, NAV never even found anything like that before...such a pity.

Sweet! I got this program off emule and installed it. After updateing, I noticed it had 90,000+ virus definitions! Norton only has like 65,000-70,000 last time I checked. I thought.. maybe they're ahead?

So I ran a scan and BOOM, found 5 viruses that Norton couldnt pickup. 2 were porn dialers that were hidden in some cracks I left behind. other 3 were in dlls in win dir... dont think they were key loggers, but I noticed somewhat a speed enhancement after removeing them.

Damn you norton!! I think I autta toss it out, eh?

Ok, I just restarted and it does scan on start up. Only thing though, it scans the objects that run on start up, so it doesn't scan your whole harddrive at start up, just the programs that load at start up. Which doesn't even phase my start up on 384 MB of RAM. And you can disable that sound notifaction, just go under KAV, then go to Settings, Additional Setting, and untick Enable Sound Notifaction.

That does not prove anything. I would be more interested in how long it took you to scan 89645 files/folders and more so if you were able to run several other programs in the process or was it one of thoose "I have to shut down all proggies when I do a full scan."

I remember when I use to run nav corp I could scan that many files in 15 minutes top or my whole computer and run other programs. And yes nav let's you know how long the scan took.

nothing here

As a sidenote I just spent 4 days without any anti-virus (just a firewall) and didn't get 'owt. Living life dangerously. :01:
I've never used any anti-virus software and I only occasionally use a firewall cos I can't find a decent one...

Maybe it's time I learned about security  [/b][/quote]
The av you should definately have. but a firewall is not completely necessary, depends on where you frequent on the internet. majority of the people trying to hack theese days don't have a freakin clue so it's not all that serious as the media hypes it up to be.
