Do You Connect Your CD-ROM Audio Out To

I do connect the analogue audio, but I've never needed to use it as I haven't had any trouble with digital extraction.

You've always used XP?

XP doesn't use the analogue channel, so there's no need to connect it.

I don’t because I find the CD-ROM adds to much noise (through the sound card).

Anyways, Anyone here ever tried digital out. I have yet to see one connect like that.

I've never even seen a sound card with a connector for the digital out, or a cable to use it for that matter.

it is not connected in my main PC. but i use my second one for game emulators and i finally found a reason to connect the analogue cable in that one: Magic Engine requires it in order to play the CDDA in PC Engine CD-Rom games. dunno why. it just does. (yes, according to both the emu's author and my own fiddling around with it... i'm not drunk or anything. :P)

WinXP can use the analogue connection from a CD-Rom. it's just unnecessary with like 99.99999% of modern Windows programs.

S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) is a standard audio transfer file format.
It is usually found on digital audio equipment such as a DAT (Digital Audio Tape) machine or audio processing device.
It allows the transfer of audio from hardware to another without the conversion to and from an analog format, which could degrade the signal quality.

When talking about Digital Outputs/Inputs in Soundcards, its easy to confudge the CDrom and the SPDIF. They are 2 different things.

Had to add that for more clarity.

Oh yeah, I have the cabel from CDrom going to the Sounblaster,

FIrst time i opened my old computer up (i had already opened an older computer and knew the inside a litle bit) i saw that wire and didn't know what it was. i asked someone and they said it was for sound, then i opened my computer, unplugged it, tested to see if the sound still worked, it did so i took it out. :P

Funny on an older computer my friend had , I was to fix sound cause it didn't work. I opened the case , and lo and behold the cd audio plug was blowing in the wind.I think I just do it out of habit now. :)
