Ok, we have a 92mm thermaflow fan for the heatsink.

It comes with a molex and mobo connector...2 different wires. We are just going to plug it into the mobo, and dont want to have to deal with the molex...can you just cut the cord and put super glue on the tip of the wire or something?

Did that to mine. still works fine. :) CUT IT!

So you just super glue the tip of each wire and it will be fine? No sparks or anything?

nahh it won't but i cut mine really close to the connector so the wires aren't long anough to touch even if i forced them. :)

btw hot glue would be better than superglue. :P

I guess we'll see. So far it's not a good sign that he needs instructions for connecting a CPU fan.

bigdawgfoxx, post some pictures of the connectors of the fan. That way we can be sure what you're talking about.

I suspect that the right way would be to connect the molex connector directly to the power supply and then connect the smaller connector to the motherboard fan riser so that the RPM can be detected.

bigdawgfoxx
07-22-2004, 09:54 PM
Not a good sign that VB doesnt know what the fuck im talking about....haha

We are cutting the molex connector off, so it wont be in the way. We are just making sure we can cut the wires and put hot glue on the end..

wait make sure of something.

the motherboard connector should have 3 wires going into the connector.
make sure of this BEFORE cutting.

on my 120mm fan it has what i thought was a motherboard connecter and a molex connector but the motherboard one is actually just an RPM detector...it has only one wire (yellow) connecting to the motherboard, the black and red are just simply not there.

edit: where did u buy the case from? maybe if u email the place saying it is taking way too long they might send u something free :)

I didn't get anything from tigerdirect (cheap bastards <_< ) but it's worth a shot anyway. :)

ROSSCO saves the day...yep just a yellow connector..good thing we didnt cut it. Why dont they just make the one normal connector for the mobo like other fans are..

Well, it shipped out on the 20th so it can be here in like 3 days...but its been in my town since last night so i was thinkin it should be here neway..lol

you're lucky i knew what u were talking about.

btw i think it's just cheap fans that are like that...my 80mm had all the wires but that was an expensive one, my 120mm fna was cheap and it only had the two...

but it could just depend on the company i guess.

Alright fucking drop it. Like 5 pages of that thread were yall talking and a ton of the other stuff was. I had like 10 questions about little stuff, I was just making sure about.

Maybe why my cpu can run full load 46 with a nice overclock on cpu and gpu. Its an awesome computer so fucking drop it already. I wasnt asking questions here its just a thread to post pics on and have fun.

So here are my questions...haha

Ok. We have a Mobile 2500XP, Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, and a SP-97. We have 2 intakes in front, 2 exhaust, 1 intake on the side pannel, and a 92mm fan on the SP-97.

We start it up just to get into bios and look around and it is at default speed with a 1.6VCore, which is right for a mobile I believe, and its running at 43C Idle..

The fan setup is just like mine except for the side intake and we have the same exact fans...

The only thing I think it could be is that the SP-97 is not fitting well on the CPU.

I am thinking about taking the heatsink back off and making sure all the mounting stuff is on tight, then screwing the heatsink on good, although it looks like its on good already..any other thoughts?

Edit: Also, for the heatsink, I rubbed artic silver into the bottom and then whiped it off with a rag (so it would get in the TINY cracks) then just put a very thin layer on the CPU.

For the bottom of the heatsink, should I LEAVE a thin layer on it or whipe it off like it says on the site...

wipe it off.

supposed to be a really thin layer so make it as thin as you can.

Virtualbody1234
07-23-2004, 03:28 AM
Yeah. Just a thin layer. Also, it takes some time before the Arctic Silver becomes fully effective. Run it for a while and see what happens with the temps.

bigdawgfoxx
07-23-2004, 03:30 AM
Sorry for no pics...we didnt get the case till 8 and it was too late by the time we were done..pics tommorow guys!

I rubbed it into the heatsink very good and whiped with rag. Put a very very thin layer on the core. I used Artic Silver III

With my CPU it was at 28C when I turned it on at first...

Could be wrong, but I thought the standard voltage for the mobile was 1.45v, which is why it runs so much cooler.

I also heard that it doesn't work well on Asus boards, possibly for the same reason.

Ok, we have the FSB set at 133Mhz (266Mhz effective) and the multiplier at 14, which is stock.

The only problem is, the CPU runs at 800Mhz...wtf! I go into bios and set it at 200Mhz FSB and multiplier 9.5, which should be around the same speed, and it wont even boot up...makes no since...

I will post all the aquamark stuff when were done.

ive seen more systems with that cpu, so is it better to get a 45 watt or a 35 watt

on the abit board how much is the difference in temps? and will speed fans detect cpu temp right?

If I were you, I would definatly consider putting a shroud in between that sp-97 and the fan! See the overhang from the fan there? a shroud will take that wasted air and shove it all through the fins of your heatsink. Probably lower temps a bit, which allows for a higher OC. :)

Alright!!

Got the NF7-S and the mobile 2400XP working good.

1.35Vcore, 1800Mhz, 35C

Dont the Abit boards supposedly show the temps like 10C higher then they really are?

Everythings working great so far!

No, they don't.
In fact, the temp you are seeing is the socket temp as the Abit will not access the on-chip diode, so your CPU temp is prolly on the order of 5-10C higher than that.

Congratulations though.

bigdawgfoxx
07-30-2004, 06:19 AM
Why dont they access the on die temp then...I always thought abit reported higher temps then real...i guess its actually lower...so i guess like 50C should be our limit when OCing?

clocker
07-30-2004, 11:47 AM
Actually, the Abit does access the Winbond 83.....(I forget the actual number) on-board diode, but it reserves access for itself.
That diode is where your thermal warnings and shuttdown temps come from, but it blocks third party apps ( MBM5) from accessing the same reading.
If you run the MBM5 Setup Wizard you'll notice that your CPU temp is set to Winbond 2, which is the thermistor in the socket base.

I hope you checked the thermistor position before you installed the chip.
It is not always sticking up far enough to make good contact with the CPU die and that can give you wonky readings.

I didnt see a thermister...never have lol but I aint taking that damned sp-97 off again..it will be fine...I guess

Is it bad to take the heatsink off and then reapply without putting new thermal paste on?

Also, we noticed the Abit had the square plug used for P4 boards usually...should we attach that?

ya.

actually, what is it even for i thought it provided the processor voltage. (after the motherboard scales it down a few volts).

this is bigdawgfoxx...I believe the plug is for added power like you said...but I dont really know why it needs it... its at 1.35Vcore right now haha

At what point does the heatsink usually get hot? Because i feel the bottom of the fins on the heatsink and they are almost cold...not warm at all.

I think he meant size as in megabytes....
Just so he knows for your hosting question

I duno how big thatd be...maybe 2 or 3 megs...I should be able to fit that on mine..maybe.

We set it at 166X 12.5 which is a lil over 2Ghz, and it is working. We cannot set it at 200X11 though..kinda wierd.

Also, speed fan is detecting tempertures as follows:

Temp3: -48
Temp: 46
Temp 2: 39
Temp 1: 25

Im guessing temp 1 is the case...Temp 2 or Temp is the CPU and Temp 3 is just bogus. Im hoping

BIOS reads as 39C, so I think that is the better one...Heatsink still feels very cool.

Update!!!

We got it running at 200X11, at 1.625 at 40C and the heatsink is still cool.

We will report back in a little while when we think we have reached a good overclock....I might make a new thread lol

Edit:

Its at 2.4Ghz with burn in for 10 mins..I know 10 mins but it SLOWLY krept to 45C..The heatpipes are feeling a little hot now though. The sink itself feels very cool...the heatpipes are the only things that are hot though. I will make a new thread with all the final specs and pics.

I put it at 1.85 and 2600Mhz, but it just wouldnt but to windows. It would boot past BIOS and the windows XP screen, but right after logging in it restart...I really dont know why.

We have it at 200X 12.5 @ 1.75Vcore. Folks, that is 2.5Ghz haha New, more organized thread with pics and stuff will be coming once I get to my house and upload everything.

What confusion might that be?

Clocker is a meat puppet and I am the epitome of electronic perfection.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Haha I really like this clocker/sprocket thing...its funny, but I would get sick of logging off and on all the time.
