View Full Version : Changing Title Of A Thread

What's the harm in letting members be able to change their own thread's title.
Why is it disabled?
it's very easy to enable. enable it.

would be able to fix a lot of typos on the board. ;)

yeah i hate when i do a typo in the title and can't do anything about it

doubt that would happen much.

besides other forums have it enabled and i don't see any problems there. ;)

you can only change your own threads, so obviously the ones that have some info in them aren't gonna just vanish.

It's a good idea.

Then if your thread isn't getting many replies or views you can change the title to something like, 'Hot gypo sex' and people will flock to it.

I'm sure if you PM a mod and ask nicely I'm sure they'll change the title for you :)

maybe a good idea but then with some sort of timer so you cannot change a topic title after X posts/time because if we enable this, topics in the Lounge will be changed multiple times...

ya that works too :)
could also add the poll option then too. :D

although that may be asking too much ;)

@sek612, it would mean less work for the mods if we could change it ourselves. Plus it's kind of an annoyance to have to figure out which mod is online then go to the pm thing, pm them, then wait for it to change.

I first want to know if some sort of timer is possible then I will make a poll ;)

I'm pretty sure no. There might, however, be some sort of hack you can install to do this...but that may be too complicated for rookie and he'd end up fucking up the board. :)

keep in mind i am using an old and free\limited version of invision. ;) Im not sure if that "edit time restriction" relates to the stuff under it or just editing an entire post. :(

I've edited titles too.

J'Pol is one og the ppl who takes "extra-care" of his topic titles.
He has PMed me in the past and i have done the changes, no problem
with that.

I always answer to my PM's, sooner or later, have not missed one yet that im aware off.

I see this a little bit like the Guest Area thing, the core of the idea is good
but I think it would get abused.

If the time restriction applies to the title/description too, I can't see any reason for not implementing a time restriction for all edits, maybe 30 minutes? If someone can't get it right in that time they probably never will.

what if someone points out that u made a mistake, like BIG mistake, and u want to make sure that the topic starter doesn't follow this bad advice?

i think it's all great how it is now except for titles... ;)

rperry and guitar slinger, thanks i have PM'ed someone once to change the title, a few times i reported it, but now i just leave an edit at the bottom asking for it to be changed when a mod has the chance. ;) Still think it should be enabled though.

If someone it that interested in the reply they will probably already have seen it after 30 mins. Otherwise you can always add another reply, and if someone points out your mistake they will usually post a correction themselves.

However, I agree it should be enabled.

I think it's a horrible idea to allow members to change thread titles.

PM a mod and they change it.

Very simple.

I have done this at least 3 times in the past and it works perfectly.

According members with this feature can easily lead to abuse.

PM a mod. ;)

As a matter of fact I just used the report button on my first post.

I remember IKE changing one for me. He's pretty good at administrative stuff like that. ;)

it's not that it's a big deal, it's just irritating.
the majority wouldn't even use the 'feature', and the large portion that did use it would only use it for corrections.
only a small handfull would use it for any sort of perceived mayhem.
and, assuming someone noticed, the thread could just be locked.

but...whateverwhatever.

how about a new member group where only responsible people (people known to be helpful and seem responsible) as seen by admins and mods can be added.

this special group will be allowed to create polls, edit their titles, and other little things like that, possibly have a special forum section kind of like teamchat.

 dumb idea, but smart too.
