 I've gone to three other discussion boards similiar to this, but still haven't resolved my problem. I hope someone will be patient with me...i have a dvd burner (verbatim). it was the only one i could afford. it came with nero express and nero vilsion. i have tried reading the manuals..whew..i was told i need various programs to burn dvds from files i have downloaded. I have avi, mpeg (?) div..it's confusing. is there a software program out there that will do all the conversions and formatting..or do i need to have all the various programs taking up space that i have already tried and made a mess of it all. what is winavi video and ulead...will these do all the work that needs to be done? one other question please, is there a file sharing site that one may use that supports my burner..meaning that it is already formatted and ready to burn. i have been trying for two weeks and about to give up. please help me.

Yes, you can convert every video files to DVD. But you might need some plugins to convert some video format like avi... try this site, www.videohelp.com it teaches you how to burn from almost every single video format file to DVD. enjoy

You could also just put them as data on disc and get one of these for $79 or so...

I think your question is somewhat general and you got confusion about how's
these things are done, what is a X format etc. so im just gonna explaing here what i did
when i got my DVDburner:

I also found out that there is more to encoding Video than enconding mp3's.
Hell, even mp3's can be a hassle if looking for a "perfect way" of doing them.
There's so many good apps out there, and ways to do good rips.

So, after i got the dvd station installed, I browsed these forums and found
some cool info and cool links.

Our own movie related Mother of All Pinneds can be found in here (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=103405)

I can highly recommend doom9 (http://www.doom9.org/), there's more links from there also.
Check out Guides, also every forums has Pinned, aka Sticky topics which
can be really helpfull with new stuff.
First thing I wanted to do was update the firmware and
remove the Region Codes.
on my DVDrom as I got lotsa DVDs that are from US or Europe, region 1 and 2,
I wanted to watch or rip those DVD's, the whole region-thing is just a joke.
I found instructions etc on doom9. Worked just nice for me.
Im Region Free, at last.
:)

Suprnova forums has a nice collection of How To (http://www.suprnovaforums.com/index.php?showforum=13)'s.

For really serious Movie Collectors I'd recommend VCDQuality.com (http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.php?threadid=24643)

It's all up to you, if you want to learn about Video fles or DVDburning,
you gonna have to do some reading.
These links helped me a lot to get started and I hope they'll help you too.
