View Full Version : Why Aren't We Allowed To Change Name

Not that i really want to, but it makes no sense to me. Surely the name isn't stored with each post but rather the members id? I tried searching for the post that initially imposed the ban but came up empty.
Is the rule supposed to reduce load on the server or the admin(s)?

I always thought it was something to do with strain on the database

All I "know" is the names on the allready made posts would be changed and
that stresses the Database. Its not only the member ID that changes.

I could be wrong on this but thats what i heard from 7th long time ago.

If it puts such a strain on the DB like 7th said, why has Error now become Entity?
And that's not the first time either.
7th changed a few accounts while he was here :)
Strain on the db is bollocks

btw, Not having a go at you SLinger cos I remember this discussion too :)

As i understand it, changing a name should be less strain on the database than me making this post. Thats assuming invision didn't need to do something strange...

That was probably another lie that 7th told you guys so that he wouldn't have to deal with anything.

Its fine with me if people want to change their username even after 1000 posts. There is no strain on the DB, it's simply replacing one name with another.

There are over 90,000 members registered at this forum. If the Db can handle that, why shouldn't it be able to handle a simply thing like changing a name.

7th fed you all a lot of garbage. He fed it to me too unfortionatly.

I don't know if it's the same topic, but I remember I participated in a discussion about that... with Lamsey and BB... BB and me also said that it was just one value from the database, it doesn't go off replacing everything with the new name, for instance, if you check old quotes, they will have your old name. That's why it is dynamic, so the information is handled as needed.

Hehehe that's a bit of a pain, because since your name is Sparsely when trying to change it to sparsely a message that the name already exists will be displayed, so they will have to give you another name, for instance xxxxxxxx, and then rename you to sparsely, nothing hard, just an extra step.

An admin looks it up... and clicks on delete... that's it.

Well, not really. Only the account itself is deleted. All posts will stay, and the posters name will be non-clickable (like guests).

I didn't say that the posts were deleted, I said the account was deleted... which is what muchspl2 asked.

Untill today I was known as [-Crono-], asked one of the admins to change my name, so it can't be too hard for a name to be changed.
