Lately when I download a music file, it downloads and plays through OK but there is no sound on the file. It seems to be happening with latest releases. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Is there something on new CDs that won't allow correct ripping? Thanks.

Or they are fake/corrupt or you've muted your mediaplayer :D

They must be fake or corrupt but there seems to be a hell of a lot of them. The reason I asked the question in the first place is because the files I was trying to download are from artists who have recently released albums. My media player is fine, in fact I tried a few different ones to play the files but to no avail. Oh well!

These fake files have been put on the network by the RIAA hoping to discourage people in downloading music. The kazaa network is infested with these files.
There's not much you can do about it.
Google for mp3shield and/or mp3checker.

But the best thing you can do is using another p2p app like SoulSeek ( go to musicworld on this board to learn more about it).
It has little to no fake/corrupted files, and you'll find about about any music you want on it :)
