is that what ur gettin or network status shows u that, i assume ur miss understanding cuz what u see in network status is whole "local area network" speed rate not only urs, mines shows 100mb/s but i only get 512kB(upto 70kb/s) .

I'd love to have a 11 mb/s connection.

Mines only 3.5 though

But as bawa said, that is the local area connection. That would be the fastest you could transfer from pc to pc in you network. Not online.

But if you want it faster you can get an 802.11g wireless router and some 802.11g wireless cards. It'll cost you but it is around 54 mb/s

EDIT: fixed spelling

with that connection u need 100000000000000000000000GB of hardDisk cuz these 160Gb harddisk will full out in days, even with my 512kb adsl am out of Space

I would the router route. ()

Wireless simply isn't a very good technology yet.

No way. Don't do it. I had wireless at two different residences and had the same problem both times: I would always be picking up signals from other homes. In the last house I had wireless, I had an average of 4 signals usually. Of course, you can tell you computer to use only yours except it only finds my signal maybe half the time. It's completely unreliable! The connection goes from available to unavailable constantly. I finally got so fed up, I decided to get a router and ran the cable through the walls to another jack I created. Screw wireless, I wouldn't recommend that crap to my worst enemy.

*rant complete*

Try This Site (http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest) to cheak what is ur real download and upload speed, oh and dont download or upload anything at that moment to get the perfict result, and better to use a faster Browser like FireFox cuase with Internet Explorer ull get the half of the speed in the resualt.

Wireless sucks atm, that goes for bluetoothe and everything else. The only thing I found useful was that yes you can pick up other peoples signals in the vincinity of your home if they also have wireless you can also get on their network becuase most poeple don't change the default configuration schema in wireless routers etc.

For some folks it's not that bad. But if you have an abundance of cell phones, cordless, devices and other things all througout the home then it will cause grave interferance and your connection will drop profusely at any given interval.

I give it a few years. But it's good to have as a backup in case I ever want to go wireless again all my equipment is already paid for and not borrowed from an isp like most people.

Yea, depending on what prog you are using and how much ram you have (if you are using BT).

thats tooooooo much why u even want to tweak it, 2Mb is more then enough

I got a 3.5 connection and its too slow for me. Especially the 256 upload :(

Jordank87
07-28-2004, 07:09 AM
well the reason i want to tweak it or buy this.. actually this is what im going to buy i think, its called a Wireless USB Network Adapter, 802.11b my little brother has one and the thing is when i play counter-strike i get constant lag spikes with this, i used to have a straight cable connection but i moved the computer out of my older bros room where the cable wire was so i had to get this PCI adapter shit. my little brothers Network adapter gets signals from our router, he has NO lag spikes what so ever with his, and i have a shitload with this PCI adapter, so i think im going to just go buy one of those USB Network Adapters.

You probably arent plugging it into a 2.0 usb port. That could give you the lag. What are you system specs?

Jordank87
07-28-2004, 06:05 PM
system specs are.... (the reason my processor is UNDERclocked is because my motherbord sucks and it cant handle the processor.)

AMD Athlon 2800+
1668MHz
768mb ram
Ge Force 4 ti 4200
Windows Xp Pro

thats my specs.

SingaBoiy

Its prob the usb problem then.

How much did you pay for your Ti? Just curious cause I got the same one and wanted to compare prices.

Lag can be accumalated by a number of things. I'm not a gamer but from what I understand you can't really be downloading or have anybody downloading with p2p apps on your network while you play because it can cause you to have a high ping. I would imagine no server likes a client with an unusually high ping.

Also if your getting into altercations and what not on multiplayer games you could very well be getting DoSed from either the server op or other players that may be able to see your ip. Especially if your using games that use the Unreal Engine (not unreal tourn but an engine that a lot of games use) there are flaws in that can cause another client to slow you down while you play.

The main thing is to keep your ping low.

as for the usb prob, I find that usb devices etc. especially on windows works just as good as ethernet for internet.

agreed, there should not be any download or upload on when u want to play.
and having people with high ping on server can cause other to lag too, ur speed is more then enough for online play, and also try to join a fast server.. server speeds is too importent just like downloading from a site depends on how much bandwitdh they offer.
