Which ATI Radeon 9600 does the best performance for it's money.

I mean, there are several ATI radeon 9600 (XT, pro, .. etc).
Which one is the best for it's money.

I'm planing to upgrade soon from my GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 to a ATI 9600.

To do what?
for any serious gaming, get the XT
if it's just for straight work (typing, and regular tasks) then the regular 9600 would work fine, or even the se version for a lot cheaper
It depends on which one suits your needs best.

Yeah man...
My friend has 9600SE and can run warcraft3 with ease.
I have Ti4200 128M and I can play all the highend games.

i got the 9600pro.

i chose it cos i had £108 to spend, and this (£101 inc tax) seemed the best performance-wise that i could afford. i can play halo with all the settings on "omg pwnage". and it'll do farcry on medium (a little bit higher than medium really cos ive been tweaking the shadows and it still works ive yet to play with anything else).

i think i read somewhere that it'll run doom III and half life2 on medium at 800x600

I got the 9600XT while it was on sale during christmas, it was 100$, i think thats a pretty good price, cuz at that time it also came with a voucher for HL2. I think they recently withdrew that voucher though

I can run Warcraft 3 on 1024x768 with everything on high/medium with my GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 64 MB.

The 9600 128 MB could wipe the floor with my Gf 2, you know what I mean.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I like playing games, but it depends on my mood.
I will be gaming more (for sure) when HL 2, GTA: SA and World Of Warcraft hit the market ;)

for my needs the 9600 would do it.i will see if I (my dad actualy) can afford a 9600 Pro or XT.

I need to upgrade my ram too, which will be an expensive task too because I have RDRAM (256 MB )

RDRAM is twice as expensive as DDR, if not more.

128 MB RDRAM = $60 (cheapest RDRAM; PC800 ; speed 450 MHz)
256 MB DDR = $65 (very good DDR RAM; speed: 400 MHz)

See the difference ! :frusty:

man, I need MONEY MONEY MONEY

Pentium 4 (1800 MHz) , 256 RDRAM (Rambus RAM; PC800 @ 450 MHz), GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 64 MB

It only slows sometimes a little bit down when there's a realy huge battle going on.

EDIT: You want some screenshots ?

Hey, I don't think screenshots are necessary, if anyone is to hardcore not to take your word for it they need some help lol
Although, you may wanna take some screenshots now and then take some after you get your new card, just to see the difference. For no one else but yourself.

And a screen shot would prove it's not choppy how? :P

Good idea kaiweiler. thanks :)

@clocker
I would take a few screendshots with Fraps to show him the framerate :P :P :P

EDIT: THIS IS GETTING OFF-TOPIC

i dont no this for sure, but my guess would be that the 9600 Pro is hackable to a 9600 XT........ at least, that seems to be true for its successors........maybe anyone here knows something more?

lol anyways.
If you want gaming 9600PRO is good enough, but you want to know your temp of your video card I guess 9600XT. Because it has thermal sensors.

so if i get a x800pro i can OC to equal the x800xt? :smilie4:

edit: if i'm gonna fork out £300 for a graphics card i might as well throw in an extra 60 and see where that takes me :01:

On the Neowin.net forum (look here (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=197569&st=15)) someone said that the 9800 SE can be overclocked to a 9800 PRO

Maybe that would be a good deal.Buying a SE and overclocking it to a PRO

no, you can mod/hack it to an XT

just flash the bios

you do need extra cooling for it though......... just google of hacking a pro to an xt, youll get lots of info...

he/she is talking about softmodding.......... thats different from OC'in

if you OC, you raise the clockspeed
if you softmodd/hack/flash bios you "trick" the card into thinking its a higher classed card, and thus it will run at higher speeds........

if you can softmodd, you should chose this option, since it is possible for the card to run at exactly that higher speed (sometimes aditional cooling is required)
