Hi,
I'm using K-Lite 2.4.3
XP Home

I want to stay in the Traffic window whenever I click File>Jump Supernode.

When in the Traffic window and I click on Jump SuperNode, KL then
switches to a blank window saying Kazaa Lite K++ - [Web] on the top titlebar.
The otherwise blank page displayed only has the word "traffic" in the upper left.

I've been through the FAQ but don't see anything specific to this, or I missed it.

Just a note that under Right Click>Accelerator>Options>Interface>At Startup I have checked where it says
Force Search & Traffic> then go to:Traffic, which is what I want.

How do I get KL to stay in the Traffic window when Jumping SuperNodes?

Thanks for any help,

mrlessk :)

Look, when jumping supernodes kazaa must re-connect so the main window shows the WEB Tab. The option that you mentioned is: When you start the program it ll force to show the traffic or the search tab. :D

There is a new version of kazaa k++... Your version 2.4.3 the new one is 2.4.5.3
and you can find it here: Kazaa Lite K++ 2.4.5.3 (http://www.nsane.tk)
This version has more tools and some bugs fixed.

Gilojeleia and Lite, thank you for your replies.

The reason I asked about this curious behavior in v 2.4.3 is that when I use v2.6 RC22 and I click on Jump Supernode while I am in Traffic it stays in Traffic whereas, as I stated, in v2.4.3 the window switches and I have to manually switch it back to Traffic to see my download progress.

But, if this is normal for v2.4.3 then, so be it.

(Right now I'm torn between using v2.4.3 and v2.6.
I don't like the ads I get on the Search page of v2.6 but I do like the Tab-Search feature.)

Thanks,

mrlessk :)

I beleive the reason for that is because K-lite 2.6 uses the "soft-jump" method, which doesnt interupt download/ uploads ;) . KLK++ uses "hard jump".

BTW, there shouldnt be a single ad in k-lite 2.6

Ok Lite, I understand what you mean regarding the soft/hard jump method (therefore this is a big plus for v2.6 as far as I'm concerned).

As far as the ads, yes, I didn't think there should be any (that's the whole idea of K-Lite).
When installing 2.6 I very carefully followed all the install instructions I could find in the forums, checking that box that says "install without Ads" (not verbatim), but still ended up with the ads.
I even re-installed v2.6 in case I missed a step and still ended up with ads.

As far as checking the Hosts file entries as you instructed I don't know how to do this.
I'm running WinXP Home and ZoneAlarm 5.1 if that matters.
How would I proceed?

Thanks much,
mrlessk

Your HOSTS file is located at %windir%\system32\drivers\etc on win xp.
Reinstalling ticking the box "clear ad block before installing" should also fix the problem

Ok, I found the Hosts file in DRIVERS>ETC, made a backup copy of Hosts, opened Hosts with Notepad, added your block of entries ("Ensure all these entries are in your HOSTS file:") but it will not allow me to save the changes: it tells me it's "Read Only".

It also wanted to save it as a .txt file and I understand it needs to be without an extension, so I tried saving only as Hosts but still without success.

Any advice? Consider that I have never manually modified my Hosts file before and could use simple instructions.
Like everything else, "it's easy once you know how".

By the way, I see there is a hosts.zip WinZip file in DRIVERS>ETC.
Don't know why or how it got there....could this be relevant?

Thank you,
mrlessk

You have Spybot installed? You can make a file writable by right clicking it and going to properties.

Ill post the rest later... but im off out now ;)

Yes, Spybot, Ad-aware, Spywareblaster, SpywareGuard, etc, etc.

You've piqued my interest. How does Spybot come into play here?

Reply whenever you get a chance.

Thanks again,

Sybot has the option to "lock" your hosts file, thats why i asked, look through the options.... itll be there somewhere. This option is there as some spyware applications like to "hijack" your HOSTS file. You can always re-enable this option after you are ad free ;)

Why you want to save it with an extension? . You can enable the viewing of file extentsions via windows explorer.

How to show all file extensions in Windows Explorer:

Open explorer. In the menu, click on 'Tools' and go to 'Folder Options', Go to the 'View' tab. Disable (untick the checkbox) 'Hide file extensions for know filetypes'.

How to rename a file:

First make sure you can see the file extensions (.txt .reg etcetera). See above on how to fix that if you can't see then.
To rename a file, simply right-click on it and select 'Rename' in the contectmenu.

(too lazy to type it out myself :01: )

The HOSTS.zip file i dont know why its there... but can safely be deleted

The helpfile for kazaa lite k++ and K-Lite both have a guide on the HOSTS file, which explains the basics. The only thing i warn you is to make sure... no matter how much you edit it the following line is still there:

127.0.0.1 localhost
Also anything with "#" in is commented out and isnt "blocked" ;)

Any more help needed? Just ask :01:

Right, the point I was trying to make is that when I tried to save it from Notepad it would always add the (.txt) extension. It was my understanding (from a Google search on "modifying Hosts file"), that it (host) did not have an extension (which I see in ETC it does not). So, this was one of the complications I ran into....how to save the modified (copy and pasting your list) Host file without an extension.
Oh, and the item, "Hide file extensions for known filetypes" was already unchecked.

Anyway, in my Spybot v1.3>Tools>Hosts File I can see the Hosts List there.
Again now, this is all new to me and I don't want to screw anything up so I'm being very attentive to your instructions.

Can I copy and paste your list into the Spybot list?

If not, what would be my next step please.

Lite,

I was able to add those entries into my Host file successfully....

The problem I had in not being able to modify the host file was that the attributes had Read Only checked....DUH!!

Once I unchecked that I was able to add the entries you supplied and.....

the final result is...NO ADS!

Thanks for your help, very much appreciate it.

hmmm, this is rather odd!

It's been a few days now since resolving the problem I had with ads
that I was still getting in my K-Lite v2.6 Search page. Once I put
those entries supplied by Lite in my HOST file the ads went away
and all was fine
....until I started KL this morning.....

BTW, I checked and my HOST file is "ON"......

What could be going on?

Hi Lite,

Thanks for your reply.

All is well.

Yes, that was one of the first things I did when I saw that the ads had come back.
Those entries I had added from your list were still there in host.

Somehow my Host file had been turned off and DRIVERS>ETC contained a host.off file that I was prompted to delete "before changing the host file" (not sure how the message I received read word for word but it told me I had to delete the host.off before proceding). So I went to that file and deleted it.

Even after removing host.off the ads did not go away (I had restarted my browser and also KL).
I was prompted that I "may have to restart your browser before changes can take affect".
But as it turned out I had to restart my computer.
Once I did that and opened K-Lite 2.6 the ads were gone and have not returned since.

So, I have no idea how host.off happened (quirk of nature? act of God?).
I doubt it would happen without me having to have done something to cause it but I can't pinpoint any activity I would have been doing that would be related.

Oh well.

I think what I've learned to this point is:

>how to add entries to my host file (turned out to be easy once the "Read Only" attribute was unchecked).
>if ads return, look for host.off
>delete host.off
>restart my computer

I don't know if what happened to me this time is a common occurrence in other's computers or if I am an isolated case.

For the time being however, I am ad-free.

Thanks again,
mrlessk :)
