It's been a slave ever since.

I tried the following techniques and failed:

1. Droped it onto the table from 4" drop. (if the disks inside got sticky/stuck)
2. Tapped it on the table slighty on each side
3. used new hd wire (i had a spare)
4. cooled it off for a long time lettng it sit
5. blew it with an air gun (cant get it open)

Recover your data and contact the HD maker. Over the years I've sent 5 HDs for replacement (WD & Maxtor) and the only cost is shipping.

umm it has pirated stuff on it though, even if I wipe they can get it back.
Hmm maybe i break the disk inside then send back..
It's a maxtor

If you break it like that, it won't be under warranty any longer. That would be considered abusive use.

I also think there is a seal marked "warranty void if seal broken" or something like that.

They don't care, they make hardware, not software. You aren't stealing from them, and I personally have sent drives back to Western Digital, loaded with warez, and never had a problem. I believe it's illegal for them to try to recover any data from it.--

It is illegal for them for them to recover any data because if they did that then they would be breaking the data protection act.

And if they used that data to try and get u done then you could sue them under breaking the data protection act and claim that the software u had was for "evaluation purposes" only. :w00t:

nice site, well i'm puttin my hd in the fridge for an hour or two, then gonna try to get all the data off it and secured. The darn thing gets very hot after 20mins when i tried to get the data off, so keeping it cold may give me extra time.. When it gets hot, everything goes reallllly slowww

if u have a friend in the restraunt biz, get him to cool yo moniter    (heh, i bet someone did this)

or just hook up a nitrogen cooler state of the art to your moniter.. costs more than the computer all itself

Yea, i hate when some people think about others that way when actaully the original user is the one that would be more likely to break the computer than the more computer savvy user.

Well, the savvy is just trying to be an example to the not-so-savvy.

what i ment is:

one that is computer savvy=likely to fix the computer

one that is not computer savvy=likely to break the computer and blame the more savvy user in confusion.

Huh?

Im sorry, but no wonder the Hdd is bad.

"Dropped it from 4" high, Blew it out with an air gun, Froze it in the freezer to cool it down, mounting it upside down"

Geeze, do you people really do this??? If so, no wonder you have to post threads asking how to fix it.
