View Full Version : Mozilla Firefox "ad Block" Alert

"ad block" doubles or even triples the load time of most pages because it has to process and remove the ads. I thought maybe pages would load "Faster" without ads, but as I tried turning "ad block" off.. each page loaded waay faster without any split-1 second delay.

In the end.. it's worth having those ads since the page loads faster.

Just a little tip.. hope no one already posted. ;)

Well then just don't install adblock then.

I already have Mozilla installed. Is there a way to turn the "ad block" feature off?

Since when did mozilla come with adblock? Or did you install it as an extension? Adblock works so well for me I hardly even noticed.

@Wolfmight
I have not found any delay in page rendering due to Adblock. While I cannot offer any empirical evidence, my observation is that Adblock actually speeds up page rendering (in addition to making browsing more pleasant).

@dOomed
Adblock is an extension; it is not installed with Firefox. If you have installed the Adblock extension, it can be disabled by going to Tools --> Adblock --> Preferences --> Remove check in front of Enable Adblock.

I have learned that larger lists of content to block cause the slower page loading.
Just make sure you dont have a list of atleast 400 items like mine has.

I have found that this short list is a very good starting place to block just about all ads using Adblock (sorry, I don't remember where I got it from). Just copy and save the following as a text file and use the Import Filters function under Adblock Options:

/\D\d{2,3}x\d{2,3}\D/
googlesyndication
us.yimg.com/a/
/\/buy_assets\//
/[\W\d_](top|bottom|left|right|)?banner(s|id=|\d|_)[\W\d]/
/[\W\d](double|fast)click[\W\d]/
/[\W\d]click(stream|thrutraffic|thru|xchange)[\W\d]/
/[\W\d]value(stream|xchange|click)[\W\d]/
/[\W\d]dime(xchange|click)[\W\d]/
/[\W\d](onlineads?|ad(banner|click|-?flow|frame|ima?g(es?)?|_id|js|log|serv(er|e)?|stream|_string|s|trix|type|vertisements?|v|vert|xchange)?)[\W\d]/

adblock is more than just that. It,s about having the ability to just right click nearly anything and block it on demand rather then editing your host file everytime.

Cause it's like soooo tricky to edit your hosts file :rolleyes:

I still use the Supertrick XG that ex-member Xero Grid developed, he still supports it too. It's better than having another application installed, I have enough clutter on here.

Sorry to go off topic, but is there a way to uninstall firefox?
I tried it today and I get frequent windows explorer crashes, and it's giving me shit with MIRC not copying things to clipbord. :helpsmile:

Hey that does work alot faster and blocks all the same ads. I didnt see any ads on any of my toolbar links and they all loaded very fast.

;) What I should have said was, keep a clean short adblock list and dont get too messy
