I have been playing doom lately having good fps (usually 40-60fps) at medium settings 1024x768 when no monsters are on the screen. Then when I get to a part when I am shooting monsters my frsmerste goes to 60 to like 15fps! <_< Anyways, can someone tell me how to overclock my card( for those of you who can't see my sig because of eye troubles, I have a GeForce FX 5700Ultra with stock fan)?

as opposed to OC'in anything else bearing no risk <_<

EDIT:

it all depends on how you go at it, what precautions you take ect........

if you OC in small steps, test, then OC another small step, your gonna be fine.......

if you OC your card by 200% at once your asking for trouble.........

Fuck no. I just want to overclock it a wee bit so I notice a reasonable performance increase.

If your carefull and have good cooling it really isnt too risky, just oc till you get artifacts then lower it abit then your fine. I just oced my rage 128 pro to 130/155 from its stock 109/109. All i did was slap a stock heatsink from a 2100+ and then oced as high as it would go. But I would be alot more carefull with a 5700U.

Let me rephrase that, what exactly do I have to do to overclock my video card?

CoolBits (http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/a_coolbits/) is what I use.

Good find! ..and I would add to use the 'Test New Settings' each time you increase before making them permanent for start up.

What is better to increase? Memory clock or core clock?
EDIT:Stock speeds: 300/906, right now i'm at 315/920 and I use the test changes and it worked fine.

Can someone help me out here? In the settings box there is the option of standard 2d or performance 3d? The default is standard 2d. When I click on performance 3d and click deteck optimal frequency, the card goes through the test and when its done is says 522/1(ghz). Is this safe to overclock to with stock fan? The compuetr tested it and sait is was alright.

Ok so what is a good speed for my card? Stock speed 300/906.

Maybe around 350/950.

You really have to figure it out yourseld. Go up incriments til you find artifacts or your card keeps messing up or that you game keeps freezing... stuff like that. Then go back down alittle.

which like me is probably what prompted the attempts ;)

If you want some benchmarks then this may help

clicky (http://www.benchmarkhq.ru/index.html)

might wanna try aquamark too, they have a nice forum where you can compare scores to see how you are doing

aquamark (http://www.aquamark3.com/)

lemme know how you get on :)

My aquamark3 score was 23,700 err something like that. Someguy in the forums apparently got past 100,000! My comp. sucks!
I did it again and got 23,581. :(

My aquamark score is almost 38,000. Your score does seem a bit low. Make sure you have all open programs closed and even stuff like a good defrag and system clean can make a big difference.

I wouldn't klet the results annoy you,it's all relevant. Some folks will get extreme results and others have spent an extreme amount of money to get those results. Try doing a comparison by uploading your results and comparing them against similar set ups , thaty will give you a better idea. for the record I have gone from about 26000 or so to 32000 so far, need to do some more research first :)

as I said I am trying to learn just like you are. :)

at the mo I am reading through the forums and trying some of the suggestions they make. Unfortunately I have an ati radeon card so most of the apps I am using won't apply to you.

Have you tried the cpucool app that someone suggested? :)

gotta go restart I just installed some stuff
