I finally figured out how to port forward with my router, but I have to put in two different values. One is the public port and the other is for 'private port'. I know which ports I have to put in, but im not sure which one i put them in. here is my router..http://portforward.com/smc/7004wfw-portforwarding.htm

Another thing - if I have to open up more than one port, do I have to do individual entries for each port, or can I just put a dash or something. Thanks.

use public and private as the same......

you only need to work with them if you have 2 (or more) comps in the network using the same ports........

say both comps host a website

now you forward external port 80 to comp one port 80
and external port X to comp two port 80
(X cant be 80)

in comps two's website port X will have to be specified as the port for the site

this allows both comps to use their comps like normal, without setting their software to listen to other ports.......
