I have a friend that asked me this:

I have a tennage boy at home. What is a good cheap tracking software system for a home computer to detect what websites, email, etc are being accessed? Thanks!

I would like to help him out, any recommendations.

i dont know of any software for that, you could use netnanny which is blocks certain sites.

you could use this method: tweak the tennagers registery so that he doesnt have access to his ie control panel and history etc. then when he leaves the pc, the reigstry tweaks can be undone and all can be found in the history.

Choose your favorite P2P application then search for Norton Internet Security 2004 (professional version or normal). Cracks and keygenerators are often included within these .iso and .bin/.cue image files.

NIS2004 is a suite package that includes the means to dictate and limit which sites users can access by content or URL or IP addresses. It logs all of this information so that you can easily see who has been where and at what time. And this is in addition to the norm of including firewall, anti-spam and anti-virus protections for your internet browser and mail client applications.

Now, the operating system, on it's own, is capable of recording these informations in history, recently used documents and temporary internet folders. However these places are not very secure on their own and users can easily wipe them after their sessions. Using an application such as NIS, you can create specific profiles that can only be edited by yourself. The profile will enable it so that only specific users have rights to disable or uninstall the software or delete any of the logs it creates.

There are other programs that is capable of doing what NIS does, however through P2P, NIS is the easiest to get ahold of, IMO.

Prevention is better than cure: Norton Internet Security (NIS) either 2003 or 2004 would cover all bases perfectly.

Locking the door after the horse has bolted: Use a keylogger but beware that those damned things may have the capability to tell others what everyone is doing - like entering passwords on internet forms and suchlike.

I'd go for the first option myself.

Try radmin. Just casually install it on their computer while their away and it loads on a specified port. Once the server is up you can either get a telnet session (command-line) or a fully graphical session in two ways.

One is non-interactive where the user will not even know you are there and you can just watch them, graphicallly just like you were sitting at their screen or standing behind them.

The other is interactive where you move your mouse it moves theirs. Non-interactive would be the best in your situation. Best of all they won't even know it's there.

You should be able to find a crack for that easy.

you can also add any adress you dont want visited to the hosts file, if your using XP, its located in: "X:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc"
(X being partion windows is installed to, WINDOWS can also be called WINNT)

@chewie I tryed a keylogger for my daughter. It felt like reading her diary,Trust is hard to get back once you &#39;v lost it.I took it off, but everyone in the house thinks its still installed. Sometimes the threat is just as good. ;)

first off, you shouldnt worry because alot of teenagers arnt monitered while they use the internet and obviously atleast half/most look at porn once in awhile as well.
If you moniter him, dont get mad at what you might find out because he innocently didnt know you monitered him. If he doesnt look at porn everyday or such, then let it slide.
