Is The Village a good movie? My friend watched it and he said it was horrible. Has anyone else seen it, and what are your thougths on the movie?

Thanks.

its not a completely bad movie, its just way different from what you'd expect it to be.

its a little predictable, and not scary at all (if thats what you were hoping for, sorry).

theres a lack of dialogue and just a weird air to the movie that makes it difficult to digest.

i dont think it was a waste of time, but its not on my favorite movies list by far.

I thought it was a really good movie (as you can tell lol). I liked the story, and it kept me guessing the whole time.

Its not exactly a scary movie, more like a mystery. I saw it in digital with enhanced picture and sound, when the first creature passed by, that first glance... scared the shit out of me and most people, damn loud sound effects. I jumped a little. :P

Would I watch it again? Sure.

Watch the movie... you'll see. I don't know why, I just think its cool when directors do that. :D

You know what bugs me though? You never get to find out what Lucius' color is. :(

EDIT: Also, ofbz, watch The Village in theatres, its worth it. Watching it at home, its just not the same thing, you know?

In the movie, it shows the cop reading the newspaper in first-person view, so you can't see his face. If you look closely, at some point you can see his face in the reflection, and the cop is...
M. Night Shyamalan.[/quote]
No big deal really, I just think its cool when directors do that. :D

Some of my favorite parts:

Originally posted by Spoilers. Highlight to read.
When the first creature enters the village, and starts roaming around. Everyone goes indoors exept Ivy, she stands at the door holding her hand out. Right then the creature was really really close. That part really got me into it, I was thinking "Oh my god! Get inside! Go you stupid ass!"

And then when she was walking in the forest with the camera up close, showing her from the waist up. She walks for a while, then suddenly stops. The camera zooms out, and you see that she is standing in a feild of red berries. I thought to myself, "Oh shit." You could hear other people saying "Oh no!" in the crowd in the theatre. And when the creature started to chase Ivy, man that was crazy.

Don't ruin the movie for people who havn't seen it yet. Put "Spoilers" or something before you post things like that. ;)
No.

You mentioned police guard in your post which pretty much gives the game away. So feel free not to tell me what to do in future.

Might as well leave it so people can know what we're going on about.

Back on topic: I liked the use of colour in this film. Most of the time it was pretty bland (purposely I think) but that scene where she is dressed in the protective colours and the camera pans back and she is surrounded by the banned coloured berries was pretty awesome.

*warning: spoilers below*

I'm really into paranormal movies and adventure as well. They can be on the move from danger, or looking for hope whilst guarding the majority of the towns people from the unknown beyond the walls.

I thought this movie was overated from what the previews show. I noticed Mr. Shyamalan tends to turn another direction in alot of his movies and sometimes is very good too. (The Sixth Sense was one of his best, and Unbreakable wasnt too bad either) But then sometimes it get's a little goofy. Letting people know that the man who runs the whole village is the cause of the pain. Then when you find out it's the "20th century".. the tables have turned again. The village isnt just haunted by some werewolf-hedgehog-thingamajig who is a retarted man, but modern life outside the walls have not once set foot into that village. I was expecting atleast 3-4 of these beasts to pop up sometime in the movie knawing on a corpse. I thought they mighta been warlocks at first. How about an encounter of a cloaked/transparent man?

Heh, it's also funny how references to the 20th century appear throughtout the movie such as one or two men wearing modern day suits-n-ties. They looked a little too clean if anything.

Anyways, the ending scene was something that kills the audience.
"OoOoOo now she knows the truth, maybe that policeman will climb over and try to rescue the people living in the old lifestyle.... woop fell into that damn hole!"

I am not to criticize Shyamalan, since his other films were much better than this one. From what people say, this is the lineup of his styles:

The Sixth Sense: Friendship
Unbreakable: Discovery
Signs: Faith
The Village: Discovery (some people also said "love")
