Just went out to get some hair of the dog and all the pubs are closed. :o

Stupid football season kicks off today and my home team are playing Millwall, everyone is scared of getting their place's trashed.

Apart from Wetherspoons...but they're not a real pub.

What to do?

Catch the ferry over to Devonport. The pubs only open accross there if they think there might be some trouble

I lived in Plymouth (Pennycomequick) for 3 years while in uni. Great place to live, also the sun is out Cheese, you could buy some stellas and sit on the Hoe til those pesky Lions fans have left.

Apparently so, they named a whole district after her orgasmic tendencies. Never did find out who she was though.

As usual the weather here is beautiful, in fact I've even go so far as to open a window. Took Gemby's advice as well and got some cans from the shop. :01:

Well fookin 'el :o

Weird you mention the perma-sun cause the weather was always windy and pissing down when I lived there a few years ago but it's the best named place I'm ever likely to live in, and Sainsbury's is just up the road :01:

Pennycomequick dates back to the time when that part of England was called South Wales.

The original spelling was pen-y-cwm-kwiuk, and means Head of the creek.

Another useless fact.

I don't think Devon was ever called South Wales matey :P

I think you're making the rest up too. Pen-y-cwm would mean head of the valley and Kwiuk is the most un-Welsh sounding word I've ever heard. I'll eat some humble pie if link to a source though :D

It's plausible. Cornish and Welsh are pretty similar languages, True or not I think the local Janners slappers will be well impressed with your local anecdote :shifty:

Ours have to stop serving alkiehall at 11pm and can't serve again until some time in the morning. I guess this law must be linked in with our pub closing times (which originate from the second world war  )

Hop across the border, and convenient stores sell beer, and they're open 24 hours.

Yes but you fail to mention the drawbacks.

#1 Your beer tastes like piss :x

#2 Your average beer drinking Brit would need to start imbibing by 10am to feel even a slight effect by the time the pub singer started.

I'll eat some humble pie if link to a source though :D
You obviously know very little about British history then. Your local library should be able to provide you with old maps of Britain, where you'll find the whole of South West England was in fact South Wales, hence the proliferation of Welsh names there. If l had more time l would scan some in and show you, but l don't.

A picture of you eating said humble pie should be good for a laugh.

Shut up!

South England was never a part of South Wales. That's crazy talk. Unless you know benevolent cartographer you don't have any maps to show that either.

The similarity of some placenames and dialects in Wales and the South West is because when the Angles, Saxons and Jutes invaded Britain the indigenous Celts were pushed into the western extremities of the UK - Wales, Devon, Cornwall and Scotland. Some went overseas to Brittany, Normandy and Ireland too.

Anyway - the real question is did HenryHiggins feel used in the morning? :o

The dog wandered the house until 1am looking for it's owner. So I locked him in my room and he tried to get in my bed, being a sausage dog he couldn't make it and I fell asleep whilst he was scrambling to climb up.

I awoke 3 hours later to find him still trying to get in. I then kicked him out of my room and he proceeded to wander the house again this time howling. Eventually I got fed up and whacked him on the nose with a newspaper, he then sulked in a corner of my room.

Stupid dog.

That's how it should be! Don't let the dog think he/she/it is better then you (even if the dog gets treated better).

Hi lurker, have you been waiting for me all weekend? :)

Yes I went to a state school, I also just proved you wrong. Unless you have a link there to show me the mighty Welsh empire in all it's former glory. Did it extend much further than Devon, at all.

I'm so glad it's not Welsh cause that was my main bone of contention. I'd have struggled to eat that humble pie, what with both feet in my mouth :D

However, it appears that I've changed my mind about whether the Celts are my ancestors.

Question - how has Engelande been fairing after the releaval of the alcohol detention from 11pm to 3am?
has it gone smoothly or with true tradition of one given water after thirty days in a desert without one advertisment?
