View Full Version : How Come
How Come it's easier to get a cold when it's cold?
I mean bacteria and viruses like when it's warm and snuggly.
So Why do you get colds easier when you've gotten cold?
Is your body more vulnerable when you've gotten cold, is it because your metabolism gets slowed down, or does it have to do with tissue getting damaged by the cold, or what?

i dont think its more likely just that you're more miserable
But a lot more people get ill at wintertime.
I see it every damn winter.
Wee kiddies dripping snot everywhere and whatnot.

Because we all huddle together in our centrally heated buildings where the bugs have a veritable nirvana of a habitat.
During the warm seasons we all go out in the "fresh" air or have windows open that refresh the indoors air.

Shutup, that's why!
Now that sounds more like it.
But I also know that you get ill more easily when you have gotten cold, by not wearing enough clothes and that, outside. Not wearing something warm around your neck a warm winter day is usually a sure way to getting a sore throat and a runny nose the next day.
It can't only be the huddling up.

If you get too cold you lower your bodies natural defenses which makes you more suseptable to any bugs attack.... just getting cold doesn't give you a cold, you need to catch the germ to do that.

Yes but why does it lower your defenses?
Is it because it slows down your metabolism, or does it hurt your membranes just a little so you have to heal and fend off the viruses/bacteria at the same time or what?

Why do we catch more colds when the weather is cold?
This is still a mystery! Maybe our cold noses cannot fight off the viruses as well in winter. Maybe there is more stress in winter (especially on the lead up to Christmas) which is known to inhibit our immune system. Maybe our bodies and defences are affected by the shorter days and lack of sunlight. The answer is unclear, but the result is the winter months spent coughing and sneezing.
From the second link.
Guess this is the best answer I'll get.
Anyone have another theory?

So they sort of do it on purpose then.
Interesting.
How do you think they know to do it?
Do they have some sort of hive-mind thing going on, do you think?
Mathea

exactly
you see, it is their goal to take over the world, so they wait till ppl are miserable enuff at it being cold and all, then they make it worse by making their attack
its a group effort
Cool.
Do you reckon they want to steal our bodies?
You know, take over.

of course
penecillin was our first slap in the face (well they dont have faces but if they did......) so they mutate and try to form new sicknesses.... the bastards
You know, I read a book where a disease took a person over, back when I was a kid.
It was frightening then.
And I have to say that the thought is frightening now.

enjoy the warm weather while you can
just know that this is when they usually rest up and form new plans of attack
Anyone else have another idea on the subject?

That's just evil! I know they shouldn't be out in the cold as they can't walk an all, but no reason to eat them!! :o
People do eat as much veggies all year around, I think
Maybe they are fresher in the summer tho'.
I like gemby's latest idea anyway.
Funnily enough I didnt get a cold last year
Touch wood and all that :01:
I don't get them very often either.
In fact I don't get sick much at all.
But I think that's genetics.
