I was thinking of running them on Mandrake.
Do 3D games listed on this site Linux Gamers List (http://icculus.org/lgfaq/gamelist.php) run faster on Mandrake? I am looking for something that doesnt take alot of time to learn and runs some new 3D games in an o/s that uses less than 80mb to run. Plus is safe from most hacks and viruses since no one uses it much anyways.

I've ran Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament (original) on Linux, and I think they run a little faster (maybe 5 fps).

My linux system is using 70mb ram (no swapping) right now, and I have opera, 2 terminals, and pebrot (msn client) opened.

Using something like fluxbox as your window manager can help with using less memory.

What linux distro do you use?

70mb would be less than the 200mb ram my windows xp system uses. Btw, XP uses only 80mb ram in Safemode without networking, but games dont run in that mode. damn hogs of xp. just fresh installed it too.

I only have 512mb DDR Ram. Going from 200mb towards 70mb in ram use would probably help speed things up significantly in ram hungry games.

I wish there was a pc bios that could run pc games... just how a PS2 and such work. They have a bios and the game.. No Ram Hog Windows.

I use Slackware 10.

It only uses like 36mb when it just has X and Fluxbox open.

Turning off services that aren't needed will help too.

Awsome! 32mb!? I'm sure that'd help alot.
