Buying This Dvdrw.

this burner is very very good. dvd rip speeds are really good. reads dual layer, and is overall :01: hunky. i might drive over to tigerdirect's store in naperville later today to get it, i live bout 20min away. should i? is it really a good burner? any opinions? the reason i'm getting this is cuz it's only $50 after rebate. i was gonna buy a dvd rom drive anyway to replace my old broken piece of monkey poo, but that's $30. anything i should take a look at b4 i buy this? thanks!

i was told not to get a dual layer dvd-rw. there arent much use for them now and the firmware and crap can be a btich. tat is wat i was told from a friend. i would suggest getting a single layer burner for now, i just bought a brand new pioneer dvd-rw and it works like a charm.

just got it. read speed is decent. it's region locked. and there's no current firmware updates yet. even though it's locked, i just ripped Harts War dvd at 11.8x in 6 min. :01: dan this mofo's good

@abu: good for you, dude. have you tried using a program like DVD Region Free? dunno if it supports your drive, but if it does then you wouldn&#39;t need a region-free firmware. RIP ALL THE DVDZ&#33;&#33;1&#33; :lol:

2) is it worth getting an external one instead of changing the built in one (at mo cd-r)

i don&#39;t think i got a boner, but i&#39;m overly pleased with this. i download dvd region free 3.62 from suprnova, but it looks like i don&#39;t need it. i rip at full speed already

i was just suggesting it in case you ever need to watch/rip a foreign disc. it wouldn&#39;t affect the speed, afaik.

if it hasn&#39;t made you set the region thus far, you prolly won&#39;t need to do it until you try to watch a DVD-Video disc (a retail one that requires the region to be set).

i believe you can do a firmware hack on some nec burners to get dual layer out of a single layer. but according to nec, it&#39;s not recommended. it worked though. check some newegg reviews
