You know how when ever the FBI comes to your house to arrest you for computer crimes (kiddie porn) they always take your computer but they always seem to be able to recover anything even if you deleted it, well yesterday i tried to install dos on another partition but instead for going for F it went to C resulting in me loosing everythings. Then i had to reformat and reinstall

Is there anyway to get my stuff back?

that's a nice site you have.

But now, here's the real question. How would I go about permanently deleting all of those "hidden" files (preferably without damaging the files I already have on my harddrive). Thanks!

the only way i know that you can do something like that is with a low level format, but that will destroy everything on the whole drive. you cant be selective with low level, but you can get programs like ashampoo that have a built in file wiper that will wipe user-selectable files completely and totally non-recoverable. (that takes about a week though, :P ) just keep overwriting the drive, the data will get so corrupt, that it wont come back. and why are you concerned about it anyways, a good gasoline fire can fix the problem quicker than a prgram can, lol

well yeah, I have reformatted and overwritten quite a bit. I guess I'll just have to resort to the gasoline if something goes wrong :P

DOS may have overwritten the sectors where your music was. also, your music folder wont be named "music folder" or whatever you named it, it will be named something like "hjdyr78387&%*$" or something. you really have to go through everthing the program finds for you to see if your stuff is in there.

It always possible to recover data. *even* after it is overwritten. If you realy want data to be truly un-recoverable then you should distroy and burn/melt the Hard-drive..

why the fuck are u installing DOS.
there's no need to install just format a floppy and put the startup files on it. :P

and u should be running with two different partitions...one with important unloosable stuff and one with windows. or better yet a second hard drive.
ofcourse nothing is foolproof but it is much better then what u have done.
