my case if open, so i cna look at the sticks

Aida32, look under Motherboard/Chipset.

BTW, all the current memory is SDram, just depends whether it is SDR SDram, DDR SDram or DDR2 SDram (or even DDR3 SDram).

ok, i got ddr-sdram
my new motherboard says on the box dual ddr 400, will it work then?

If you mean will your current memory work with your new mobo, the answer is yes. If you mean will it give you the performance you want, you haven't given enough information.

Go back to Aida32 and look under Motherboard/SPD. On the right hand side you will then see memory speed.

Remember that if your new mobo specs say DDR400 that is usually the fastest memory speed it will support, but it is usually backwards compatible with slower memory and will often drive faster memory but only at speeds up to DDR400.
