Sometimes she gets stuck playing Ratchet and Clank, I know she started level 4 last week, no one has seen her since so I guess she's stuck

Prolly thrown the joypad at tv too

I'll keep that in mind.

BTW-

I'm thinking of DLing NOD.

Good Idea?

There's nothing wrong with nod. :D

According to some tests all the good ones, Kaspersky, NOD, Norton, Panda etc, catch one hundred percents of all viruses.

According to others Kaspersky is in the lead right now, but NOD is supposed to be a fine program.

Tried the stand alone scanner yet?

Not to get too OT, but my measuring stick is the year in-year out model, which has the effect of defaulting to such as Norton.

I'm protecting a small business, so I need something really good, but, while I'd steal a corporate key in a heartbeat, I won't pay that price, even though I'll actually buy a prog.

In other words, I'd buy the prog, and DL the corporate key/crack.

I know Nod and Panda get their props, but what'll be here for a long while?

The corporate editions are not too different, if any different, from the regular AV programs. They aren't better, per se.

The reason for the price hike is because it doesn't need activation so you can install the same program on multiple computers.

If you want something that will definitely be around for a long while to come then Norton is as steady as they come, closely followed by Symantec. Mainly the hoo-ha about which AV is the best comes from the interface and scanning speed. As SnnY said the protection offered by all of the top AVs is more or less on a par.

The edskes Mirror (http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm)

Get the scanner off here, it isn't as pretty as the regular program and doesn't offer updates or realtime protection.

When the next version comes out, you just download it again.

It might give you a clue whether NOD would catch something your current av will not.

Apart from that it doesn't install and won't even leave any entries in your registry if you don't want it to, which means that it shouldn't mess with anything else in your system.

All you do is execute the file when you want to run a scan.

This'll be my last post for the evening I think, do have fun now.

EDit: and from what I understand NOD has been around for a while and has usually been performing well in different tests.

You'll never know how relieved I am, Nik.

Incredibly good to see your lovely av.

So it's Kaspersky, is it?

I've read good things...

Boy, hope I can hang in here; started hitting it at 1500, and the bottle's half empty...

Yeah, I had a conflict with Kaspersky before, even after removing Norton, but now it seems to be working great. :)

Ran it on my bf's machine last week - it detected 64 viruses that Norton either didn't or couldn't quarantine.

Wow.

Do you know how it does historically?

Should I buy it?

I have a half-baked strategy:

Find a really good AV prog, then DL it and wait for it to be superceded by next year's version, then go find a corporate serial key/crack.

Watcha think?

She was reading your mind as usual Jonno. It's scary in there.

J2, I figure I'll give it a shot for a while, if I really like it, I'll buy it. I've heard nothing but good things about kav though. :) It actually detected and removed a browser hijack that I couldn't get rid of with ANYTHING else including hijack this.

Sounds peachy.

What made you decide on KAV, as opposed to...?

I've got it down to KAV and NOD.

It used to do badly I think, in it's earlier incarnations, but I think they've found the right way to do it now.

I also think they haven't been active for very long which makes their history a bit irrelevant, but I'm not sure.

Another good thing with it is that I've been testing it alongside AVG for a while now, and it seems they run fine together, which means that for the extremely paranoid there's the option of using two av's at once on the same os this way.

So far AVG catches nothing KAV haven't gotten to first tho'.
I also know that the NOD stand alone thing caught things avg didn't.
