restart.

is it windows xp? i find that windows xp is great for staying the same speed all the time.

for windwos 2000 and 98 and me and the other old ones they really get slowed down.

Get a prog that frees memory, like freeramxp pro or whatver the fuck its called.

exit your antivirus and nortan internet security, i hate that shit i would rather have a virus and have to format then run a AV 24-7, i only turn it on when i download p2p or from cracks/warez sites

try nod32 i don't notice any slowdown with it.

unlike with kaspersky, norton, panda, pc-cillin, etc.

mcafee also somehow didn't slow my system. ;)

try using a less resource heavy AV and PF, like AVG, NOD32 and Sygate....

i am sure its got nothing to do with the AV and firewall
try some of these

also disable the hibernation feature if you have it on

yes it can :01:

on my old computer i had 256SDRAM and it used to run all fast and stuff but when used to leave it on overnight with bittorrent running it used to slow down soo much!:(

so when i got a new mobo and 512ddr pc2700 i could have bittorrent running for days and no slow down at all :01:

sry, i worded my answer a lil poorly....... i meant to say that the comp slowing down overnite could of course be helped by more RAM, but since it starts out fast, there must be another solution thats cheaper......

the hibernation feature copies whatever is in the RAM and CPU (awaiting processing) to the HDD, then shuts down the computer

if you then turn your comp on, it will copy it back, like you never shut down your comp....... it boots really fast (bout 1/2 normal boot time), but in my experience it produces alot of errors.........

hibernation is sorta like turning your computer off except it saves everything u had open on your desktop and other users had open to the hard disk based on how much ram u have.
so if u have 512mb of ram then hibernation is giving the hard disk a dedicated 512mb all of the time.

disabling hibernation frees up that 512mb but won't make ur comp any faster.

Storm

remember that most tweaks wont really give you any noticable improvement..... certainly not on their own........ 512MB should be more than enough to run your comp 24/7........

i do it with
slsk, azureus, emule AVG, Folding@Home and MSN running non-stop

and every now and then i play a movie or surf with firefox

though i must say that i have to restart slsk every other day to stop it hogging to many resources (but thats more slsk's fault than anything else), azureus every week.......

There's lots of info on that page. Try empting your prefetch folder . The performance tweaks are good aswell. Or try the setting up as a game machine. ;)

If you have an ATI card don't try the memory tweak , thats in anouther topic. I found out the hard way. <_<
