Yes, its possible and actually happens in some places.

Trouble is that some discrimination is learnt subconsiously from the environment in which you grow up, and some is caused by fear of the unknown.

it depends on where you live. There will always be someone somewhere that wishes to deny equality and will come up with some incredible reason to justify it.

I'd like to think it is.

I fear not, tho'.

Human beings are incredibly diverse and as long as this is so, there will be people who are wont to exploit and discriminate against those who are different from themselves.

It is this diversity that ensures that such people exist. :(
