Everytime I play music either from my hard disk or with a DVD/CD the music 'jumps'. Does anyone have an idea what the trouble could be. I have used various 'players' it still 'jumps'. That is why I suspect maybe a card problem.

Have you made sure you've got the correct/latest drivers?

Its brand new Lynx. Only got it in April.

I've bought new equipment before now only to find that the drivers have been a couple of years old, so it is sometimes worth looking for later drivers.

Is it an onboard sound chip or a separate sound card?
Make/model could help with the diagnosis.

Any processes running in the background stealing your cpu? Often causes tracks to jump about, skip and generally frolic.

Unfortunately there are quite a few Realtek ac97 chips, I think you will have to be a little more specific than that.

Also, is it a separate card or on the motherboard? If it is on the motherboard telling us the make/model of motherboard will simplify things.

I have updated my sound card. Even though I have set the computer to upgrade on a regular basis. I have noticed that the amount of other processes running does not affect the sound. I had this feeling that it was my optical mouse that was causing the trouble. But that proved to be false. I will continue various tests till I find the cause. When I find out I will post the result. Thanks.

It could be the actual software player that you are using, i use winamp and i find that my music never jumps.

i suggest you give winamp a go :)

Winamp + a complete codec update appears to have cleared up about 95% of the problem. Thanks Azzz.:) I expect that the rest of the problem may be track related. I will let you know.:)
