My son got shoplifting at target, he tried to steal a 20 dollar game, they cuffed him and took him to the police station where they got all the info, i went to pick him up in the police station, they said he has to go to court, what will they do their? I am very worried, will it effect my sons education and what will be the punishment? He is 15

How about you let you son worry. It's time to teach him that his actions have consequences.

Here in the US, they might fine him and make him do community service. It won't stay on his record if he doesn't keep getting in trouble. Juvenile records are sealed when thay become "of age".

I'd leave him there for a day.

When I was in jail (very briefly) I vowed to never go back.

Ok, obviously it is probably the kid himself wondering how he's gonna be screwed over. What he wants to know are, what are the consequences?

just buy him a hd loader if he has a ps2, then he wouldn't have to steal games

$20 game? you got to be kidding me. The kid has be punished because he stole something that could be bought so easily $20? come on. Maybe in the hundreds but 20? you need to teach common sense.

What's the difference? stealing is stealing.

$20 today...who knows how many times he stole before without being caught.
And look what he stole...a video game.
Your agruement would be only understandable if it was a starving person stealing a loaf of bread to feed the family...but then that's still stealing

I just hope, than even though he broke the law by stealing, that you, as his parent make it really clear to him that you didn't like the choice he made, but you still love him.

you stupid, stupid parent.

why on earth are you looking for advice on a public forum on the internet?

if you are in the US, then get yourself a lawyer (or a public defender if you can't afford it), and get your advice from him/her.

don't go into court without a lawyer whatever you do.

geesh.
