record companies being squeezed by walmart (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6558540/thekillers?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single1)

It seems that when you have walmarts buying power you can easliy tell the record companies what you want.

since 1 in 5 cds is sold by walmart in america now the record labels have to pay attention to what walmart wants and for those of you in the uk asda is owned by walmart :)

Normally I wouldn't give a crap about a supermarket, but if Walmart/Asda are busting the balls of a lot of the labels to change for the benefit of its customers, then they're alright in my book :)

The enemy of my enemy, in this case, is my friend.

Actually they have been using this strong arm technique on their suppliers for decades. The problem in this case is that Wal-Mart can decide what is acceptable on the CD's it sales, ie. Nirvana's Incestide, one version contains the song Rape Me, while the copies sold at Wal-Mart do not contain this song.

I worked in a V small record shop many years ago & the reps used to make no secret that the supermarkets would refuse to stock any titles they didn't receive the correct discounts on!!!
Hardly an level playing field!
