View Full Version : WMP 10.0 Problem

Ever since I've downloaded WMP 10.0, I've had a peculiar problem. Some, NOT ALL, video files play very slowly (about half speed, maybe slower). Audio files are not effected.

How can I fix this problem? Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Thanks,
DSF

Reinstall codecs or download and install the klite codec pack.

Can you play the files correctly in for example Videolan or MPC?

I haven't tried videolan, but they work on DivX player.

Also, they used to work on WMP 9.0

It's not that I can't play them at all, it's simply a case of "This isn't right, and should be fixed"

well, try videolan
if that doesn't work, it might be ur comp's processor and ram itself

In windows media player there is a setting that you can change to have the video go half or full speed, perhaps that option is checked.

It doesn't do it for all videos, but a bunch. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the filetype either.

BTW, I already have the codec pack installed. I reinstalled it, and it didn't help. And, I'll say it again, the videos do work with other players (videolan, divx, etc.)

After installing various codecs..... I'm getting sound at normal speed, but no video.

Now, the only player it completely works in is VideoLan

I have an older version of the K-Lite codec pack installed. When I install a newer version, all media completely stops working.

What codecs should I use to get this to work again?

I was thinking of that. But how do I uninstall WMP? It's not in the Add/Remove prog. list, and It doesn't seem to be removeable via. add/remove prog's. "windows components" section

Go to add/remove programs, then go to add/remove windows compononts, and you should be able to detick WMP

if it isn't in add\remove programs then use xplite pro to remove windows media player altogether. then restart and choose in xplite to reinstall media player and it will install media player 8 (needs the xp cd). after that install 10 again (or 9).

Though the sound to my video files isn't slow anymore, now the picture's gone completely, and I get an error message sayiing:

"Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error"

However, the sound still plays in the background.

I rolled back to WMP 9, and have the same problem. Do I need something I don't have?

I DID IT!! Rolled back to WMP 9, reinstalled codecs, it worked! Went back to 10.0, still works!

Thanks for all your help,
DSF
