Below is a list of NTL Proxy servers. I am not sure if anyone can use them or just NTL customers. Maybe someone would like to give it a try and let me know.

A proxy basically hides you from the net. So your questions are sent via the proxy and the reply is sent via the proxy. It is really easy to set one up.

Right click on Explorer on the desktop and select properties.

Select the connection tab

Press the LAN settings button.

Select use a proxy server and paste the address into the address space. I just leave the port blank, but I'm told 8080 is a setting that works.

You will now access the net via that proxy.

Here is the NTL List

Leave out the bit in brackets, that's just some info about the location.

If you want to test it try Steve Gibson's excellent site, and get it to probe your ports. This will tell you what IP you are connecting from, in some cases it will identify that you are using a proxy and tell you more about them.

https://grc.com/

Try it with the proxy on and off and you will see the difference.

Some sites will not let proxies in. If that is the case then you can just change the Lan setting as above. However Proxy Pal, an excellent free program will switch the proxy on and off for you. It is a button in you Explore Toolbar and it works a treat.

You don't even have to reboot explorer, simply switch the proxy on or off and refresh the page. I have tried this at an ftp which only allows one connection at a time and happily had two running. It's also freeware, unless I am very much mistaken.

It really does make sense to think about this. Places like ES5 are advertising themselves as being more secure because they use proxies to connect. You can set it up yourself quite easily.

This is the page on the Freeware site where you can get ProxyPal (and other things).

ProxyPal is excellent, as described in the thread starter. It is small, simple to set up and works a treat. It's one of those things you wonder how you did without, with a click of a button proxy on - proxy off (is that the Karate Kid ?)

Cool! I've never had experience using a proxy server before, but I may give it a try. I'm not so sure that NTL would make proxies publicly available to non-NTL subscribers though , but this (http://tools.rosinstrument.com/proxy/) has free proxies as well. :)

Edit: None of the above servers are near my location, anyone know of one near SE England, in Kent?

Hm.. Can anyone care to give me an explanation of how to use proxy servers.. like.. lets say.. those online browser games where you give out a referral link and you get a reward for someone clicking on it, my friend says you can change your proxy and just keep on clicking to get rewards.. but i tried it and it doesnt work.. any help would be appreciated...

list below are put here for educational purpose only. Use them to improve your
privacy online, at your own risk and not for malicious deeds!

Shouldn't this post be moved to the Filesharing Forum?

This is interesting stuff for all filesharers!!

It does change your IP and if you have the right proxy your internetspeed slows down just a little bit.

It's quite easy to do and it looks pretty safe.

leave it unchecked unless you want your isp to be able to track you from their homepage whenever you visit it.

Fill in the blanks here with whatever information I am not clueing-in on if you will...

But A proxy is some sort of "firewall" type of service that your internet connection travels through to "mask" your IP identity or to provide a security measure/filter against maliscious code invading your system through various open ports- am I even halfway getting this correct?

It does seem pretty easy (given Paul's tutorial) to set up, however, what benefit is this supposed to provide exactly for the common internet joe who knows only the bare (bare-assed kinda bare) minimal about internet/network connections (such as yours truely) ?

I short, as I understand it. You make your request to the proxy server and the proxy server makes that request to the relevant webpage. Similarly the information is sent back to you via the proxy server.

So anyone tracing the ip gets the details of the proxy you are using and not yours.

The modern p2p programs are advertising that they use proxy servers for added security (ESV is an example).

However you can use a proxy yourself, get the same security and use whatever p2p you want.

The main benefit is a high level of security, as those wishing to do you harm find it much more difficult to get your ip.

Imagine you are sharing a file and the RIAA wants to trace your ip to contact the service provider and complain about you. They do the trace and it is a proxy in Algeria. Sort of fucks them up and they then go after a softer target.

There are other reasons to use them, however given the forum we are on, this is the most important. Remember, by using ProxyPal you can switch the proxy on and off with one click of one button.

If anyone can either confirm or deny this, please feel free to do so.

Most p2p2 apps only have socks proxy support and not http proxy support.

I dont use socks proxies so its of no help to me. :(

The followings are high anonimity proxy servers updated today, I found a bunch of them have a very high bandwidth (which could increase your speed) and others SSL encryption communication. Good luck:

However you can use a proxy yourself, get the same security and use whatever p2p you want.

Imagine you are sharing a file and the RIAA wants to trace your ip to contact the service provider and complain about you. They do the trace and it is a proxy in Algeria. Sort of fucks them up and they then go after a softer target.

If anyone can either confirm or deny this, please feel free to do so.
Lets keep in mind that these proxies are generally for web surfing, and do not affect most p2p programs such as KaZaa (KL++). If you are looking for information about using proxies, such as SOKCKS5 PROXY, with programs such as KaZaa (KL++), then read Using Proxies With KaZaa (KL++) (http://www.klboard.ath.cx/index.php?act=ST&f=48&t=62694&st=0#entry456457).

Hello everyone, I have a list of IPs that contains ranges of about 2000 IP that are being used by some Euro countries, yet mostly US to track/trap Proxy scanner. Some have a range (with known of at least 5-10 IPs used for that purpose), other have specific IPs.

Any suggestions wether this would be benificial to u guys. I currently have them HOSTS file and use a tiny program (Calamity & sometimes ProxyChecker) to check my proxy list for such traps and/or IPs.

Please note that most of them are .mil, .edu, .gov (of their respected countries), however, there are many from the private sector with .edu and others.

Here's a taste, would you have known these are traps and/or within that range there are some?

ok i heard a thing stated that it would take a chain of 50 anonymous proxies for you not to get caught, whether that be true or not... it made me think and i come to you now with a question, how would i go about making a chain of proxies as long as my haert desired?? and also if i did would there be a program that could mayby start and finish the connections to all of them??

My wants:
:a how to to connect to multible proxies
:b A simple program to manage them all, and connect to them etc..
:c it all to work so that anyone with the curiosity to find my ip would :frusty:

Thanks guys... i would like to potientally put every proxie in this whole thread in a chain... that would be crazy...

Anyone have any standard cgi proxies? Its much easier to surf than changing your proxie. Example:

http://glass.ipe.tsukuba.ac.jp/%7Es011304/...i/000010A/http/ (http://glass.ipe.tsukuba.ac.jp/%7Es011304/cgi/nph-proxy.cgi/000010A/http/)

thats the proxie

you just enter
http://glass.ipe.tsukuba.ac.jp/%7Es011304/...websiteurl.com/ (http://glass.ipe.tsukuba.ac.jp/%7Es011304/cgi/nph-proxy.cgi/000010A/http/www.websiteurl.com/)

remember dont put in hte http:// in front of your urls. Anyone have any more cgi proxies?

I'm on NTL cable, so I should be able to put the proxy settings in the LAN settings box on Internet Options, but when I go to type in the proxy server address, the box is greyed out, so I can't do it, even when I put a tick in the box saying "use a proxy server for your LAN".
The thing is, it used to work OK last year.

Sorry, but ES5's gatling proxies aren't anonymous, and there's doubts that they're located in Palestine. This and ES5 is filled with malicious spyware.

I set up a proxy from the fst list that said high anonymity.
When I went to a proxy checker site (http://www.stilllistener.com/checkpoint1/), the full analysis still shows my ip address.
Why am I failing the proxy check?

OK - so I just manually pasted in a list of the proxies you have listed in here.

While on the topic of safe proxies, what's your opinion of the list of countries shown in this "unsafe" list at Proxyblind?
http://www.proxyblind.org/cc.shtml

Would it be helpful to maybe also remove proxies from the "unsafe" countries listed at proxyblind? I already do it myself, but sometimes wonder if it's a waste of time, or a good idea.

Yes! :) I tried StillListener and ALSO found that javascript was bypassing perfectly good anonymous proxies. I also found TWO ways to disable the Javascripts:

Method #1:
This site that I found with Google explains:
Disabling javascript: Why and How (http://www.canonical.org/~kragen/javascript-solutions.html)
(note: I had to manually code the html for this link because with Javascript disabled, the http button doesn't work)

Method #2 (for Zone Alarm users):
Go into Zone Alarm, Privacy, Main tab, Mobile code control, and click on the Custom button and make sure you check all four boxes, including "Block javascript" which ZoneAlarm does not block unless you specifically check this box. Click the Apply button before you close the ZoneAlarm windows.

After I did that, then the StillListener Java test page only said "Java Test" with a non-moving font and nothing else, which means it passed. When you FAIL the java test, the stats will show BOTH your proxy IP and your home connection IP addresses. This will come as a rude surprise to people who THOUGHT they had anonymity all sewn up and then find out they still had javascripts enabled.

SUGGESTION:
If someone finds a way (tip. trick, filter utility, whatever) to ONLY block javascripts from revealing your home IP address, but allow them to still do all the rest of the nifty things they get used for, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post how to do it here. I don't know exactly how the evil javascripts manage to reveal ones IP address (except by using your authority because YOU clicked on something to activate them), but maybe someone can figure out how to filter the string that is your home IP address from the datastreams being sent back out past all your other security WITHOUT completely disabling javascript. Even better, would be if the filter read your current proxy IP address and then sent that out IN PLACE of your home IP address so the java-snitch would match the currently active proxy IP address.

I tried changing the java settings to high security and then custom settings to disable all unsigned content with all signed content set to prompt.
Nothing worked to hide my ip, even when using a proxy, except disabling java completely.

I found a site with some information about the kind of java applets that servers can use to see your true ip while using a proxy here. (http://reglos.de/myaddress/MyAddress.html)

Thanks for the info I was pretty sure "ordinary" settinsg would not be able to do what I was asking about. I agree, that unless some trick (I won't use the H word) is used, ONLY disabling java/javascripts completely will stop the leak.

Probably because BT has to know where you are in order to work. Proxy won't let it. Guess that tells you how safe BT is (NOT).

hi, i'm new to this proxy stuff and i just wanna ask a question
i heard that certain proxies can be slow, where can i find the fast (and still alive) ones that have speeds like my DSL (512/256)?

thx,

If you use Complete Anonymous Web Surfing it will do everything for you. You can chose the level of anonymity and the speed. It will ping the proxy for you and tell you how fast each one is. It will also check which ones are still available.

CAWS (http://www.pcmesh.com/surf-anonymous.htm)
hi, Mr JP Fugley

thx for the recommendation, CAWS seemed to have fooled some websites that check my ip. however, i must note that GRC.com's ShieldsUP! (https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2) is kinda hard to fool at. it showed my true ip rather than my proxy right away.

edit: New question
Can CAWS handle filesharing apps like kazaa, emule, bt, overnet and etc?
if not, wat do u recommend?

thx
