It depends whom you're trying to hide them from.
If it's your dad, then emptying the recycle bin should do it, but if it's the kiddy-fiddler-police, then I'm afraid the only way to get rid of embarrassing things is to torch the hard drive, throw it in the ocean and hope they don't find it. This is because they have such advanced ways of finding what was there once in a hard drive's life, that you can never be absolutely sure they're not gonna retrieve anything.

Evidence Eliminator (http://www.evidence-eliminator.com/) boasts that it uses deletion encryption to beat the Feds. I'd say that it probably does too but I've never had cause to test out their theory.
