probably...if you ahve more than one stick of ram then try with just one, then with the other. Also try putting them in different slots.
if just one then put it in a different slot.

download memtest86+ and put that on a bootable floppy and try running it. It will tell you if your ram has any problems.

I had a similar problem with my nephew's pc, just after installing SP2. Nothing I did (including removing SP2) would cure the problem, not even a Repair install. I even put the drive into my own machine to see if I could find any faults, but nothing was obvious.

However, a full clean reinstall solved the problem. At least that would tell you one way or another if it is a hardware problem. I now keep an old 6GB disk for this very reason. I try an install onto that, if it fails I know it is a hardware problem so there's no point in overwriting the installed system.

yeah i think it has something to with SP2 cause i did a clean reinstall of windows this morning and was working fine untill i install SP2, the problem started again.

yeah i think it has something to with SP2 cause i did a clean reinstall of windows this morning and was working fine untill i install SP2, the problem started again. That's very strange. I haven't heard of any such issues with SP2. I guess you'll stick with SP1?

tesco

That is very strange. My only guess is that SP2 is installing either a) an incompatible driver or b) a driver which is taking advantage of a fried part of your motherboard (which wasn't installed in sp1).

although the second one is not that likely (but indeed possible).

ill guess that ill contact microsoft and tell them what is wrong to see if the can resolve it
