I bought a new computer, Sony Vaio laptop which has Windows Xp on it. Anyway, I ripped some of my cds with the media player so I could listen to my music. Later when I listened to them, some sounded normal and some were sped up alot. What could have caused this? I did listen to the ones I had just ripped while I was ripping the others. Could that have caused the problem. Any help appreciated.

I had similar problems ripping and listening to music at the same time.... While ripping music...skips, irregular recordings of different types.....Since then I don't any another program while ripping....haven't had problems since.

Try the same set up w/o listening, see what happens

Good luck!

It could be that you computer does not have enough memory to be listening to mp3 and ripping them at the same time and Laptop harddrives are slower than pc harddrives so that could also be a problem. To rip cds i use EAC and Lame mp3 encoder since it can detect skips and reread if your cd drive supports it.

Use EAC (exact audio copy). It rarely, if ever, makes mistakes.
