Dreamweaver MX2004 is great. Download that for editing the website.
You will also need a host for your website (most likely a free one).
You can get a redirect URL at www.cjb.net (most free sites will give you something like hardcoregamer.free.website.com/website/index.php why cjb.net will reduce it to hardcoregamer.cjb.net :) ).

Using a template is the easiest way to get started and get some ideas, search google for one.

Ok ill read that but in CJB what do I choose?
darkmessiahs.cjb.net is available. Please select one:

I would like to host my web site with CJB.NET. (http://www.cjb.net/host.html?darkmessiahs)

I would like to redirect darkmessiahs.cjb.net to my existing web site. (http://www.cjb.net/register.html?darkmessiahs)
I would like to use dynamic DNS to point darkmessiahs.cjb.net to my IP address. (http://www.cjb.net/dns.html?darkmessiahs)

Btw, can I make the name have symbols like this? ={DARKMESSIAHS}= It wont let me in CJB.

Emdee

Wait until you've actually got a website to redirect to before you use cjb.net. I'm guessing their hosting service isn't free.

silent h3ro
10-25-2004, 09:58 PM
Wait so its not free? What is a free one that I can register a name for? As I said above can I make the name have symbols like this? ={DARKMESSIAHS}= It wont let me in CJB.

Emdee

No, that would be illegal as an internet address.

For your website first you want to find some webspace to host your site, then you want to create your site and upload it, then you want to use the free cjb.net redirect option (the second one in your list above) to redirect to your site

Can u tell me step by step or does the guide tell me that?

Emdee

The guide's got a few suggestions on where to sign up for some free webspace. Might be worth checking if you get free webspace with your ISP account as well.

Emdee
10-25-2004, 10:24 PM
It'd save you the trouble of signing up for webspace if you've already got it with your ISP. Go to their website and see if they've got some kind of hokey site builder or something.

If not, just sign up to one of the places in the guide.

christ man - dont worry about the url till you got something to send the url to.

try reading this: http://www.w3schools.com/site/default.asp

then see where you are at. it tells you all the basics of what tags are etc.

then go to http://www.freewebtemplates.com/ ( i googled website template) and find one you like....modify it till its how you want it.

then find a host to upload to

upload it, then get your url. you can only have alphanumerics in the url (and no spaces) so it cant be anything fancy like you wanted

There are a lot of them on google. (http://www.google.com/search?q=free+website+template&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official)

no m8 you edit the html files with wordpad or with a program like dreamweaver.
the thing you can edit with photoshop are probably the images that belong to the template you was gonna use.

no m8 you leave the .gif files alone, those are the decoration of the website your gonna make...you only need to edit the html file in the beginning.
right click the html file open with wordpad and edit what you want to edit.

That depends on the template.

It might provide image blanks for you to write text on in photoshop in a fancy font.

Alternatively, you could just write text over the top of them in Dreamweaver.

EDIT

/me should've read that quote all the way thru before posting. Who's the man? :01:

As long as you save them as the same file format and name. Also when yoou upload it you will have o upload the whole folder in its original folder structure or face some html work in word/notepad.

Emdee

Alternatively get someone else to do the site for you, otherwise you'll end up with an amateurish site full of novice mistakes.

See if any of your clan have done html before.

stick purely with html guides for now - php and things like that are much more complicated

Holy Mama - and you act as if you dont know how to make a website:lol:
that site you made looks serious (thought you where going to make something real paint style:P)
except it loads REAL slow....(could be host(my fault) or the size of images are too big.

I am presently still using NamoWebitor (trial) and am slowly going over to dreamweaver. i find Namo easier to understand as a Noob
how to make alink
load your page in Dreamweaver or Namo
Mark the Image or ext you want linked
in the menu bar there is a "Create Hyperlink" button looks like a chain
or
right clik the image - the text you want linked
clik on "Create Hyperlink"

fill in the adress where you want the link to go

Your website on your ISP would be something like hxxp://members.yourisp.com/username/index.html although you could get a redirect shortened url somewhere like http://www.cjb.net/ and http://www.dot.tk/vc00802.html#free which are a couple of many and use your shortened url to point to that long one at your ISP which in my opinion is a better place to host web pages if you have access. As for uploading your files you could do it with IE by accessing your ftp space once activated at fxp://members.yourisp.com/username/, call your ISP and ask for the specifics or you could use an ftp program which is generally better like SmartFTP which is what I use...

It's very easy, and it will HUGELY help you.

There's a zillion sites on HTML, just google for them.
