Only asking this in case someone here has suffered the same symptoms.

In my left leg I got like a pulled muscle kinda effect going on, it's not that cos I had it for 6-8 weeks, but if you point your toes and keep your leg straight you should be able to raise it to waist level, my right I can, my left I can barely get 12 inches off the ground, it pulls all down the back of my thigh, half down the back on my leg and slightly up the lfet side of my back.

I will be going docs, have to go for him to sign me off in 10 days anyway, just would like to know what it could be :)

Something to do with your hernia and subsequent operation?

@Manky......No, this is nothing to do with that

@Dan & Mr.G.......No seriously, it's similar to cramp, resticted movement in the muscle, I thought it was maybe the way I sat in my puter chair, but since it's getting worse and I not sat in that chair for over 2 weeks, it can't be that

@Darth.......I've been dying for 27 years :01:

@Mr.G......No, it's not that, possibly made worse due to that, but it started well before my op, I was working everyday, so plenty of exercise
I dunno, I'm kinda thinking hamstring or ciatic nerve

oooooooooooooooooo... Ciatic nerve........ :helpsmili

Maybe you should go see your GP or physiotherapist asap, those can be quite painful.

edit: the ciatic nerves, not the doctors, unless they want to insert medical implements where the sun don't shine...

@Mr.G....Yeah I know, it IS painful :(

@Manky.......Nah I guess being on your feet, walking about, lifting stuff for 6-8 hours everyday is a lot less than sitting at a desk

Ah. Maybe that is your problem. Lifting stuff has to be done a special way unless you damage your back, muscles and stuff. :smartass:

@Mr.G.......Yeah I know, trust me I know how to lift things :)

@Manky......It was'nt an excuse, I was saying that it's not caused by lack of exercise

Jonno what you are trying to do is extremely difficult for a fully fit person. Have you considered that there may be something wrong with your 'good' leg that does not allow you to feel the 'pain'?

I had the same thing but with my right leg and lower back. Some major cramps happening too. Pinched ciatic nerve. It took a long time to get better (with slow stretching). I still 'kind of' feel that it's not completely gone and it could start over again.

I sometimes get a pulling sensation in my arm which has a similar effect, although I think it is a combination of repetitive strain injury and the fact that I have 3 vertebrae in my neck that stiffen up. maybe its a spinal related problem and you need some physio....

Jon L. Obscene

I really can't see it being spinal related, it's concetrated in the back of my thigh.
Dunno what it is, I know it's painful and annoying

Sciatica:

One or more of the following sensations may occur as a result of sciatica:

Pain in the rear or leg that is worse when sitting

Burning or tingling down the leg

Weakness, numbness or difficulty moving the leg or foot

A constant pain on one side of the rear

A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up

http://www.energycenter.com/ec_graphics.folder/med5.gif

Depending on where exactly the nerve is pinched, people experience different symptoms.

The feeling in your leg is called "referred" pain, as your brain tells you that the pain is in your legs or butt, but the actual point of injury a bulging disc hitting a nerve root in your back.

The reason it does this is that it is hitting sensory fibers that are coming from the parts of your leg effected.

http://faculty.valencia.cc.fl.us/mludy/images/dermatomes.jpg

The sciatic nerve contains fibers from the L4, L5, S1, S2, S3 nerve roots. Therefore compression of the nerve can cause symptons in the areas in the diagram labeled with that designation.

Your body is actually kind of stupid. Look at the L5 on the foot. If a disc in your back is hitting a sensory fiber that is coming from your foot, your brain only knows that that nerve has been "activated", and it tells you that the source of the pain is your foot, even though it is your back.

Since the sciatic nerve contains nerve roots from many levels, you we feel pain from your ass to your foot, particularly in back.

Heavy lifting is a great way to get both a hernia and sciatica. REst and anti-inflamatory medications usually cure you.

I changed dermatome picture because it was messing with the page layout.

:frusty: I don't believe I sniggered at that pic

Thanks Hobbes dude :) Interesting, I guess everything really is pointing to that, altho I have been resting for 2 weeks and have had a course of anti flame for my surgery, but my leg is steadily getting worse day by day, the only contrast is it hurts when I'm up and using the muscles, it's fine 85% of the time I'm sitting/laying.

A herniated disc can take 6-8 weeks to resorb on it's own. Best take it easy and stay AWAY from any surgeon who wants to cut on you.

Did you find that penis to be "unfeasibly small"?
