I'm building a pc out of my spares for a friend of, the only thing im changing in my own system is my hd from a 60 gig to a 120 gig sata which plugs directly into my board via provided connections so was wondering is it just open up take out drive and install new 1 with drivers or is it not that simple and whats the best way to wipe my old drive?

yoiu put the new one in but if u want windows on it then you need to format and isntall windows...and when windows setup is starting it says "press f# to isntall third party raid drivers" press the key and insert your sata driver disk that came with your motherboard.

before any of that you might have to setup your bios to see the drive as well.

If I was to install Sata-HDD, I would definately format the partition where Windows was and re-install it. ( I dont have Sata atm.)

Install the drivers onto your old disk first, then put the new disk in and use Ghost or Partition Magic to copy the old disk to the new disk. Much faster than completely reinstallling.

Now that is something I never thought of  I also have a prob with an analogue capture card which could be sorted out by formatting so I might still do it, hhmmmmm
