View Full Version : How do i Reinstall Windows ?

May someone please tell me how to reinstall windows, so that I lose every single files except the ones that came with the computer please. I have a 5 year old IBM pc which is really bad. The reason i want to reset it is because it has alot of junk on it and it doesnt operatre properly . So please could someone tell me how to reinstall , this is really urgent.

Put the windows cd in the drive, restart, make it boot from the cd, in windows setup somewhere it asks if you want to repair the current windows installation...do that.

It writes back all of the XP files in the windows folder and changes some registry things back to default. All drivers are reisntalled too (to the xp version).

it leaves all installed programs and all of your files intact.

I've done a repair install on my computer once or twice and a few times on friend's computers and i can't remember having any problems with any programs :) (it's not deleting the registry entries of programs, just the XP ones).

Thanks Rossco I might try that on the one I have been having problems with.
