A friend gave me their Dell Dimension XPS T450 to fix. It does not boot up at all. I thought that i could easily fix it by entering the BIOS. Dell Logo comes up, i push delete and it says "Entering Setup...", and then it just sits their. The Cd rom drive will not open either and I am out of ideas.

this is a longshot, but have you reset the bios?

most likely the bios is totally fucked (virus?), in which case you're pretty much screwed...... if it has warranty i recomend returning it to dell, if not he/she will prolly have to buy a new mobo (will be cheaper than letting dell repair it)

Tried resetting BIOS and its still screwed. I was thinking boot sector virus. Maybe new hdd. I'll check about that warranty.

disconnect all unneeded parts (so you only have mobo, cpu, video card, keyboard and mouse left

if that works, then add a parts till it stops working
then replace that part with one you know for sure its workin

I tried that. Disconnected modem and network adapter. would a new hard drive do the trick?

im talking bout ALL unneeded parts

so:
Floppy drive
HDD
optical drive(s)
expansion cards
take out all USB devices (cept for keyboard/mouse if theyre USB)
(you could even try takin out the ram if it doesnt work with that in)
