How the hell do i get rid of this infernal device? It re-associated itself with all my video and audio files. I had to go back, and manually assocaite everything back with windows media and winamp. There is no uninstall file in Program files, on myh start menu, or ad remove programs. how do i get rid of it? I am going to go insane.

If you cannot UnInstall a program, you should start thinking "wtf?"

It's all about the Cash, Privacy and such issues.
I know this (http://www.grc.com/downloaders.htm) might be old news but for me
it is still valid. That player comes from the same place.

I've had a Real Player installed some years ago too, and I still remember the hassle
to remove it and somesuch.

Basically, it's just another piece of commercial crap and should be banned from the net.

Get the RealAlternative. If that wont play the file, it's not worth to play I think.

The Uninstaller does not work. It says "Type Y to continue". So i press Y and hit enter, and the console just dissappears...

And i dont understand why that person was making fun of my underscore?

Yeah, you could use a program like CrapCleaner to check the registry and remove the
stuff that says about Real Player or Real Networks etc.

There's a alot of funny stories about real player on the net: Google (http://www.google.no/search?hl=no&q=real+player+spyware&btnG=Google-s%C3%B8k&meta=)

:cool2:

Edit: the link wasnt working.

If you're fine with it, im fine with that.
But no way im ever installing Real Player.

If they've done spyware in the past, im not going to
install it to check out if its "clean" now.
There's a lot sites with negative storys about that player on the net.

(The link on my previous post didnt work, fixed it.)

Here's a couple links for teh lazy ones out there: (should provide enough info about how "cool" real media is)
Real One Player - Nothing but a SPY (http://pages.prodigy.net/markrm/spyware.html)
Taming the Real Player (http://www.krellan.com/rant/real.html)

For the last, just try the Megacodecpack (http://www.k-litemegacodecpack.com/index.php?content=download&type=mega).

To hell with Real Media.

real player is not that badIf you did not read, it re-associated itself with every media file on my computer. And when i tried to get the files back to winamp and media player, it insisted not to, forcing me to re-associate every media file type back to windows media and winamp.

The solution can be found here:

After using that, and having the closing of the console that i reported before, tonight i decided to look some more, and found the real directory in my start menu, and apparently there was an uninstaller, but that file deleted some files, and now i could not formally uninstall real player. Now there is a "realplayer basic" entry in my Add Remove Programs, but it says it cannot find the uninstaller, and i already used a registry cleaner to find i had many problems in my registry. 244 to be precise. But there is still the entry in my realplayer. And when i try to change media files to see if realplayer is available, it is not in the list of programs to choose, so that is a good sign.

The above doesn't work for either of us, But this worked for me. Just did some good ol' fashioned trial/error:

Do a search for .r1pclean.exe (you need to include the . in the front) or just look for it in the 'Real' folder somewhere. Double-click it. It will give you the error again but if you just click OK it will start uninstalling anyway. When it's finished, take the Real folder and drag it into the recycle bin:P . Then start RegCleaner and remove the RealNetworks stuff.

THATS IT!:01:

If there's no REAL directory, that's ok. Just search it.

Try looking in C:\Program Files\Common Files\

Yes there is a Real directory in my common files directory. Before i used that dos prompt file that you guys suggested before, there was a Real directory in my Program Files, like a regular software program. That weird dos prompt removal thing must have deleted some of the realplayer stuff, so there is realplayer stuff still on my computer, but it doesnt say it is an actual "program" like i said before about my media files. Thanks for your help everyone.
