I watched this film yesterday, I thought it was really good.

You follow a group of kids just starting out in the slum gangs in Rio and then watch them growing up into into full on gangsters.

Lots of drugs and lots of violence, quality film :01:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/ - they agree

I just checked out the trivia they had about it on the imdb site. Is actually based on a true story and most of the actors where actually kids from the gangs

I watched this film with a few friends a few years ago and thought it was awful. They both liked it but, meh...

Well, for one, yes. I despise subtitled movies.

I'm a fast reader but I despise having my eyes at the bottom of the screen in an action style movie. In something like Passion for the Christ (?), it wasn't bad at all and I barely noticed it.

Indeed there were gangs, drugs, etc., but it was all done in this artsy manner detracted from what it could have been.

Thanks, but no thanks...

May i ask, What do you mean with "what it could have been."
I can not imagine it more honest.

I enjoyed the movie. You have to watch it a few times to really get it. Since, as Skizo point out, you have to read the subtitles the first time around. But, once you know the story, you can enjoy the visuals and the acting, which was excellent.

I liked it and didn't mind the subtitles. They're much better than dubs

City of Men was a more honest, maybe a more realistic story than the first one.
More a short story within "City of God".

If you liked these movies i would sincerely suggest you watch
Tropa de Elite
It is from the perspective of the police in the same slums.
